Something's wrong with Walmart

Has anyone else noticed Walmart seeming to decline, recently? My local one is still better (IMO) than Kmart or Target, however--

1. There are now tables full of clearance merchandise in the aisles. At my local one, this only happened in the past year or so. Seems sloppy to me, and a sign that their storied inventory management is slipping.

2. Workforce seems overstaffed and sloppy at the same time. I had an item shipped site to store. Watched about a dozen employees walk by without noticing me waiting, some of them gossiped on the sales floor among themselves, finally 10 minutes later someone comes by and gets the item.

Anyone else notice Walmart slipping? I mean, in the past they've often impressed me with quality and price, and in my visit I was pretty impressed seeing a $6.88 folding lawn chair, but I get the feeling that they're simply not executing as expertly as they did in the past.

I take it you haven't seen the numerous glowing reviews of WalMart threads around here

I think Target is better.

Absolutely.

Anyone who thinks otherwise needs their head checked. And that's only after it's been properly lopped off.

No thinking is even necessary to arrive at this accurate conclusion.

Of all comparable nation-wide retailers, Target does reign supreme.

You might be able to save a little bit by shopping at Walmart, and Walmart generally has a heck of a lot more to offer, but it's just not worth it. I'd rather combine trips by going to both Target and Kroger (the nearest "shopping center" just down the road has both, which is simply all kinds of Win), then ever step foot in a Walmart.

For the all-in-one experience, around here, Meijer is also better. But Meijer has limited market reach iirc.
Above all though, I absolutely prefer Target. It's a cleaner and classier shopping experience. And the employees actually seem to have a passing interest in possibly helping you, and actually knowing how to do so.

Stupidity, yea, save some $$ by not replacing workers that leave then have barren aisles, who the hell is gonna shop there if you can't get what you came in for?

I'm not typical ATOT rich, but a little bit?? I save A SHIT TON shopping at Walmart. I get twice as much natural PB for the same price at Walmart as opposed to Target. I would say I easily save 30% shopping there, maybe 30%'s "a little" to you, but to me that's enough to make me trek to Wally's World. Also the selection isn't even close, Target has a fraction of the items, and sells them at much higher prices.

I never shop at Walmart, and never want to step foot in the place again. The only time I've ever bought anything there was in '04 when I needed a dvd player at 11pm, and even then it was a pretty miserable experience. The place looked like shit, and their merchandise was all low-end crap.

lol

I rarely buy much in grocery items at stores of that nature.

It's all about TRUE grocery stores.
For most items, a full grocery store is going to have better prices than a mixed selection store.

And I clearly stated that Walmart has the largest selection of all similar stores (Target, Kmart, etc). But I make up for that fact by, instead of attempting to get everything at one store (bad idea all around), I instead purposefully shop at two stores. I get a FAR LARGER overall selection between Target and Kroger when compared to Walmart.
It might still cost me a few percentage points over Walmart (can't guarantee that's even true), but it's easily worth it for the shopping experience.
And I'm basically poor (my lot in life is improving, just recently started a new job that pays much better than my last one).
It also helps that, in a shopping complex less than 5 minutes away I have both Kroger and Target available - it takes me nearly 20 minutes to get to the nearest Walmart. It's just not worth it if all other factors were even the same - but, well... people of Walmart... and that concept holds true for the employees, which I've always found to be pathetic. Even when I made minimum wage, I remember bending over backwards for customer service. These clowns just straight up never want to do a damn thing worthwhile. If I'm pissed off every time I shop, I'd have to be saving at least 50% every time I shopped to actually put up with that headache.

Lmao. He wants mom and pop level of customer service but has effectively put mom and pop out of business by shopping at Walmart. Can't have cake and eat it too.

Not too long ago I was walking behind a supervisor/manager (assuming so based on their different clothes, many keys and a walkie-talkie) down an isle at my local walmart. In the middle of the isle there was a crumpled up piece of trash. Instead of picking it up as she got to it, she just kicked it under a merchandise display and went on her way.

Thats walmart for you. The employees just dont give a fuck and it shows. They have lowish prices and they know it so why bother with anything else.

I rather shop at Walmart than Kroger. Kroger merchandise is overpriced and poor quality. Luckily we have Publix and Trader Joe's. Both have outstanding customer service and quality products at fair prices.

heh.

most of the "mom and pop" stores i have been to have sucked ass. I think many get the idea of them from watching old TV shows and no reality.

Yeah walmart sucks ass. I will say the target in town is just as bad. only positive it has is it's empty. But the people working are just as lazy and the store is just as dirty. Also i tend to get more price "mistakes" at Target (and always in favor of the store).

I shop of hyvee if i can. There is no question that walmart is far cheaper. just get tired of standing in line 20 minutes for the few items i get.

I'm just saying that it seems to me that Walmart has noticeably gotten worse in the last year.

The deals are still impressive, but the operations overall seem to not be.

I find that its a mixed bag. Walmart has certain cheaper products & likewise for target. I got to both stores to get items I need, but I loathe shopping at Walmart. its a frantic, cesspool clusterfuck of a store, who's employees barely give a rats ass about appearance or customer service. Target oth is always clean, enough so that I actually take shits in their bathrooms. No way in hell do I do that at a Walmart.

I can get in and out of Walmart without waiting most of the time. Self checkout FTW.

I haven't noticed any change. Oh and for the record, I don't mind Wal-Mart at all. I shop there occasionally, and I generally get what I came for quickly and at a reasonable enough price. I'm not sure what the hell else people expect when they shop somewhere, but that's enough for me. If you want an interesting experience, go canoeing or something. There sure as hell isn't enough difference between Wal-Mart and Target or many other stores to justify the opinions people hold here.

You know how times are tough and merchandise has been on the decline overall in quality.

Well it seems like its doubly so for wal-mart. Its starting to blur between a dollar store.
