Something's wrong with my DVD drive, help!

It's an LG DVD RW drive: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B

Here's the deal. I reformatted my computer last night. I used Partition Magic to make another partition of my HD, but before I did that I had to make my Hard Drive (IDE) a Primary Master (it was a Secondary Master before). To make it PM, I had to rearrange the IDE plugs of my Hard Drive and my DVD Drive (Took both out, had them go into the other's port). Everything seemed fine until I tried installing my HP Printer. I put my disc in, and after the usual spinning sound it suddenly started making a very odd noise. I found that the installation went slower than usual and at Step 2 of 4 it gave me an installation error. I had to restart my computer. So I try it again, it gets to Step 3 of 4, then installation error (I tapped the tray a few times during installation). WTF? So I open up my PC and reconnect the IDE's, power cable, and made the DVD Drive a Primary Slave. That didn't really do anything...

I tried using a Data DVD, and it was fine despite the weird sounds, copying a file from the DVD to HDD was no problem...

I tried installing a CD game and again the installation was going immensely slow with weird noises from the drive....

What's the deal?!?!?!

Wow. So I put in my LG disc with firmware updates and PowerDVD...everything seems ok...runs fine, installs. I restart my computer, and my freaking drive's drivers disappear! I can't even use the damn thing!!! It's not in My Computer anymore...

jumpers set correctly since the change? maybe the drive just died at the same time this happend? possible...

Yeah I'm beginning to think that the drive just died. I'll try putting the drive into another computer and seeing if it works. If not, then it's time to call LG and see if I can get a warranty thing going..

Do OEM products have warranties though?

depends on the company, so a call would be the best. take hdd for instacne - retail warranties may actually be shorter than oem warranties??
