5 years ago. Hmm. So are these cars older and not fixed (per the owner), or was the "shield" not enough?

Don't know the details yet, but am very curious to see what the root cause was. The owner said there was no accident or anything to trigger it. Zooming out to a statistical view:
The electric-car maker said further that it believes its cars are 10 times less likely to experience a fire than a gasoline-powered car. It said Tesla has received five reports of fires for every billion miles traveled, compared to an average of 55 incidents for gas cars.

Still, I wouldn't want to be in a burning Tesla. Or have a car that catches on fire for no reason 😀

Nobody wants to be in burning car. You still have 2000% less chance to burn in Tesla that gasoline car. Another fact is that even if it happens you will walk out of Tesla fine and burn to ashes in ICE car.
