Something's not working

I hooked up a 1.x usb cable from my printer to a 1.x usb hub to a 2.0 hub on my monitor to my computer's 2.0 usb port. I printed something and it worked. 10 minutes later my computer shut off completely. I took out my psu and it smelled like it was burned. So I bought a new psu and just installed it. But the computer will still not turn on. Any ideas?

Oh yeah, it is a home built computer. It was running perfectly for 1 month. Then just shut off completely. I tried to reboot it, and the power came on, but nothing happened. I tried powering it off and powering it on again, but nothing happened this time. I'm not saying that the usb caused this problem, but I cannot think of another reason why it would shut off completely. Before hand the AMD cpu was running around 29 - 32c. I get no indication that mother board is getting power with the new psu.

No idea, but it sounds like the PSU went under and took the rest of the system with it... (based on the fact you said it smelled bad, and the fact you put the new one in and still no luck to power up)

So, what do I need to replace? Everything, or just the motherboard (since I already have a brand new psu)

Sorry dude, but feces like this happens. Just remember to never buy generic PSU again or use the PSU that came with the case unless u recognize the brand. Stick with the name brands: antec, enermax, vantec, etc. I spent $125 on my Antec 550 true power because I dont ever want that to happen to me again.

Hopefully your harddrives are fine. : ( I had over 400 gb of anime gone. Good thing I shared the important ones with my friends!!!

Sorry for posting so much, but I just smelled something near the back usb ports on my motherboard that smelled like burnt plastic. So I'm pretty sure it's the motherboard and the psu. Thanks, I'll just replace the motherboard. So, any tips on how to clean off the thermal paste on my cpu, so I can put it on my new motherboard?

Since you are smelling burning around the USB ports on the motherboard and you said that it went 10 minutes after you plugged in all those hubs and your printer you might want to check to see if something is wrong there so you won't take out your new board! From all you have said it sure sounds like something shorted the USB Ports and that is how it all blew. Be safe and check for a problem. Your nose might be your guide. Smell everything that was plugged into the USB ports.

Just a thought. I would hate to see you get a new board and have it all happen again!
