Upon booting to windows, i get this error: lsass.exe: class object not found.

i tried safe mode.. same problem.. I tried BartPE to boot up and replace lsass.exe file, same problem. System restore doesn't seem to work when ran from BartPE.

i did a repair install of XP, same problem.

any advice? running surface scan now to see if its a HDD error of some sort.

====== here's the kicker:
put in new fresh hard drive, reinstalled Windows XP, no connection to the internet (can't be virus), runs Prime95 perfect for 3 days in a row, so computer seems stable.

reboot and I get the same error......

Do you get a blue screen with the error and an error code?

We got a lot of machines at work doing this and it was traced back to a faulty SP2 install. We eventually just reformatted all the machines since the trick to get into SP2 and uninstall it via Recovery Console just wasn't worth it.

Good luck, dude.
