Something's been clicking inside my computer...

and it's causing my comp to suddenly restart the last 5 months (it has finally gotten to me and i've been tolerating it prior to today). i think it's my harddrive...for example

1) when i do some "heavy" action with the comp, ie windows is loading, i hear a bunch of clicking noises...sometimes it clicks so much that i get a "hard problem" error and i must shut the power from my comp, or else it successfully load...after a while

2) when i use the search function on windows, i hear a bunch of clicking noises again...sometimes my comp restarts immediately after i click on the "search now" button.

3) when i play starcraft i suddenly get my comp rebooted in the middle of my game (this was the last straw!).

it's my harddrive right?

New noises coming from a HDD are bad. There's one in particular that I've heard many times but can't really describe it. It sounds like the arm in the HDD is slamming against the side and it vibrates a while until it comes to a rest, as though a spring or rubberband was pulling it.

I had a very similar problem with similar noises. it was my hard drive, and it failed soon after it started making noises. I would recommend backing up all your stuff (to CD-Rs, ZIP disks, other hard drives/computers, etc) and then replacing your drive, before it quits at a (more) inconvienient time.

Your HD is a goner... for kicks, if you want to see how loud your HD could possibly get, run a defrag. Your HD will click itself to death probably. If you have a burner, it wouldn't even be too wise to use that, because the image has to first be buffered onto the HD and it would still make accesses to the HD. Try using another drive to backup, or floppies - or a zip drive if you have one... Good luck dude.

Yep. You should start making backups yesterday. You may want to search this forum for the 'freezer trick' because you may need it soon methinks.
