Something wrong with my fuel gauge?

I don't know my exact gas mileage, but I do know that I can go at least 300 miles on a full tank of gas before the needle gets close to the E.

When I start the car, the needle is lower than it should be but after it's been running a bit, i slowly goes up as little.

The last time I got gas, the needle was pretty much right above the E but I had only gone about 275 miles. Right now I'm at about 200 miles and the needle is on 1/4 tank.

Is it my fuel gauge that is messed up or could it be soemthing else?
 
could be a faulty sending unit.

btw dont run the tank all the way to empty it's bad for the fuel pump (fuel keeps the pump cool)
