Something wrong with kinda new computer!!!!

I built a new computer around 2 weeks ago and its been working great untill now.

IT has a Chaintech spt800 soket 478 with a penitum 4 2.2ghz.

I checked the powersuppply and it still works. Cables seem to be correct, the only thing i can thingk of is that my cpu got toasted or somothing due to some stupid mistake i made when i installed it. but it worked great for 2 weeks!!! If my cpu or mobo is toasted, how would i see it?

o yah, lol. It wont boot. nothing happens when i press power.

If you do not hear a set of beeps when you press the power button your board may be toast. Otherwise it is most likely your video card or CPU.

no beeb no nothing. so its my mobo? not my cpu. and is there anyother way to confirm its my mobo. Also what coulve casued the mobo to toast.

the only way to see if it is the mobo is stick in another cpu and see if it boots.

yah i dont know if i can do that. How would the mobo be tosate tho. it was working just fine.

Perhaps you should take it to a local pc shop for them to troubleshoot.

It's always best to list full system specs as well, what brand and wattage is the PSU? What heatsink and fan? What were your temps like? Have you tried taking out the video card or ram and see if it would power on? It's very unlikely to be the CPU, even if you didn't put the heatsink on right, it would shut down to prevent damage.

psu is some cheap gerneric 420w, intel heatsink and fan that came with the spu. i didnt check my temps but the comptuer did run for 2 weeks just fine. i will go now and try to turn it on with the other parts off. Thanks for the info about the cpu. THats the part im most worried about becasue of the price.

I recomend taking the motherboard out of the case, place it on a non-conductive surface, leave only the esentials(cpu, heatsink/fan, video card, and ram) connected, and try to power it up. If it still doesn't, it's likely the motherboard or PSU. Cheap generic PSU=bad idea in either case, I had a generic 400w PSU take out a $180 motherboard. If it does power up, it may have been shorting to the case, make sure there are no standoffs where their are no screw holes in the motherboard. Also have you tried clearing the CMOS(unplug the computer, pull out the cmos battery for a few minutes, replace battery, try again).

YES! taking out the battery fixed the problem!! Thanks a lot. But i have no idea wat CMos is. What is it and how do i prevent myself from having to reset it again. Thankyou again.

You reset CMOS by taking out the battery. CMOS stands for complimentary metal oxide semiconductor, basicly it's your BIOS chip. Only thing I can think of is either somebody went in to bios and tried to change something, or new hardware got added that it didn't like.
