I'm running winxp corp pro on a media computer, controlled by a win2k pro system with remote desktop. I want to be able to play mp3's on the media computer,( play remote sounds on remote computer) - but when I try to play them, I get audio errors. Winamp will not even play the mp3, and neither will win media player. I have also tested system sounds, and they don't work either. under the sound config in control panel, it says I have no device available, but the device manager states the audio devices installed (onboard c-media) are working fine.

when I use the comp locally, the sound comes through fine. all the devices are installed correctly, and the drivers are updated. Is there a weird bug with sound in xp I haven't heard about when using remote desktop?
Could it be related to which username I am loggin in with, and their permissions? I am pretty sure I used the same username both times.

I searched the site, and google but didn't come up with anything.

also, when I select the audio to come to the controlling computer, I can play the remote sounds locally. Very weird!! any thoughts?

When connecting remotely, the host streams audio to the computer at which you're sitting. I think I've seen a way to turn this off, but I can't remember it. Also, perhaps it is this turning off of it that causes no device to be available. My best hint for you is that the default is to stream the audio.

Good luck!

there definitely is a setting to change where the audio ends up - leave at remote computer, no audio, or bring to local desktop.

the local desktop works ok, it will play, but if i use leave at remote setting, no sound plays remotely.
