Something weird in XP

Recently added a WD HD and am using it now as my XP Pro boot drive. I used the WD software on their site and all went well however; all my Microsoft Office icons as well as the Steam icons all look like this instead of the 3D type:

Icon

I tried to change the icon under properties but it is not an option....anyone have any ideas? Reload OS? Everything seems to work fine otherwise...Thanks!

It means some of the files did not copy over properly. Personally, I prefer to use Norton Ghost or Acronis Tru Image to Clone the old drive over to the new one. Acronis does offer a 15 day trial period (fully functional) and your clone will work fine if you use that to the job. I have seen in the past where, using the drive maker's utility, the same type of errors you are currently getting. Also, you could try this fix first:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile. That key should have an empty "NeverShowExt" string value. Add it and log off once, should be fixed.

you lost the file associations in changeover

windows explorer, tools, folder options, file types
find the appz in the list and edit/browse to the .exe of the prog file if needed, or just pick new icon *advanced/change icon"
