Q: Which party decided to give money to immigrants?
A: That's right, immigrants moved into this country and at 65 got SSI
Social Security. The Democratic Party gave that to them although they never
paid a dime into it.

What a bunch of crap. Immigrants paid taxes on their salary too, just like you and me. If some extent, they got taxed even more because they can't claimed as much deduction as residence or citizen. So why can't they got Social Security if they contribute to it??? Just another lies perpetuates by the Republican :disgust: :|

Because that's all your post conveys. It does not attempt to raise awareness of social security issues, the whole point is to attempt to make the democratic party look bad.

If you really wanted to try and improve the state of social security in this country, you'd try educating people about what's wrong with it's current state, and telling them where they can go to voice thier disapproval. Instead you try and cast blame on the political party you don't like.

The second half of the post isn't even about social security, it's about a congressional pension plan. It does at least have the advantage of actually talking about that pension plan, rather than saying "Democrats are evil, they want to steal your money!"

Well, that's not at all what I was saying. I think you are assuming too much of my motives.
I don't think Demo's suck anymore than I think Repub's do. Some from both parties suck a great deal.
I was looking for the "other side", if there is one, to be brought to the forefront.
I had never heard of snopes.com and while I recognize their bias, I am certainly more confident of C-Span's accuracy vis- a- vis the FICA and Congress. It took posting in ATOT to bring that to my knowledge.
WHAT I do have issues with are the use of SSI funds for the General Fund and the FICA tax levied on Independant Contractors.
I think there should be some mechanism available for those of us who are saving for the future without any additional burden placed on us by the FICA.
I also don't think it's right to be taxed again on SSI earnings, given that money was deducted from previously taxed income.

Snopes is an urban legend debunking site. I'm not sure what bias you're talking about, as they've pointed out fallacies used to ridicule both Republicans and Democrats.

take it to "Politics and News". I didn't click "Off Topic" just so I could view your political rants.

No one forced you to click on the topic , either.
Get over it.

Well...like the topic gave away what's inside.

And that <b>forced</b> you to respond??

Riiiight......

no html... try [ b ] without the spaces. bold

but if you're like me, i read nearly every topic.
YAH, ya got me. That's what I get for flipping between forums with UBB and HTML being allowed (or not) in different ones. Oh woe is me... will I Evar re-gain cred here???? :p :D
There are some people's threads I read regardless, some I ignore completely and others that I read simply because the title is intriguing.
I was mildly suspicious of the nature of the email I received and figured this was as good a place as any for BS Busting.
I appreciate everyone's take on this topic, as it's something I rarely thought about when I was younger, but definately on my mind nowadays.

Given that I only read the first page linked, I could read between the lines as far as that particular page was concerned.
If they are indeed "Fair and Balanced", they would be a rarity in the world in general, as everyone serves someone / something.

Yawn all you want. Rome burnt while your kind slept anyway.
It's something the 20 somethings need to think about.
The 30 somethings should be seriously thinking about....
and us 40 somethings should be doing something about.

I think it's just as relevant as the other quasi- politically charged topics here.
If a MOD disagrees, that's their perogative.

I don't think I want to think. It makes my head hurt.

Maybe if you framed it in more of a CONSTRUCTIVE way rather than just trotting out the partisan finger-pointing, you might get some more 'serious' responses. Least as serious as this place ever gets. Playing the blame game never gets anyone anywhere.

Speaking as a 40 something, I am doing something about it. I'm not counting on it at all. I'm making my retirement plans to be without it.

speaking as a 20 something, so am i.
