No its not. I believe you just created a Straw Man argument for me. At the very least you put a lot of words in my mouth.

Doctors do heal. And if necessary they do it for free. Same with lawyers. Cops and firemen dont choose their salary and are also expected to do their jobs whether they get paid or get paid enough.

Modern football players are businessmen first, and athletes second (or even third, after product spokesmen).

And I have no idea where you got the notion about cops and fireman being spoiled. Now I think you're just reaching.

But reaching into what? :hmm:

The point is that every profession is at its roots a business, in our Capitalistic society. That doesn't mean the athletes are not as much athletes just because they make $ millions.

Don't watch Avatar then. It might set the ol' patriotic blood a'boilin'. Or so I've heard. :awe:

It's just a government anyway, a logistics system designed to maintain order in what would otherwise be a chaotic and rather unpleasant society. You could also have considerable pride for Walmart's data logistics system, as it is also quite impressive, as is Google's; Walmart's warehousing system (material logistics) is also pretty state-of-the-art and efficient. But I don't hear many people calling for fines against Peopleofwalmart.com.

You want to go after someone? Go after the people who butcher the song when they sing it. "The" has only one syllable, not 20.

Actually, that wasnt your point. Your point was that I was wrong.
Thats what you wanted to say. And its alright. Maybe I didnt make myself clear.

I am not one of the guys who gets wrapped up in the American flag and cries. In fact I'm pretty sure its blind patriotism thats gotten us into all this trouble.
BUT, our issue here was that professional athletes who used to pretend to be patriotic for the benefit of the fans have stopped doing so because they no longer give a shit. If it doesnt contribute to their paycheck they arent interested.

Also you were wrong about every profession being a business. Many professions are not. Like the cops and firemen you mentioned. And for that matter neither is being a doctor. Running a hospital, making and selling drugs, and calibrating medical equipment are. Also, being a modern athlete is. But in Ye Olden Days it was not. Those guys had to work regular jobs in the off season to make ends meet.
I like those days better. The men were actually enjoying a sport simply to enjoy it, not to argue about how much percent their agent gets or would they be able to get sponsorship from a soft drink company.
I wont deny that the League turned it into a business first and the players just followed along, but it doesnt change my opinion about the players themselves and how they act at the stadium.

Which, by the way, was the point of the thread in the first place.
