Patriotism has always taken 2nd place to the almighty dollar.
And those arent athletes. Those are businessmen with muscles. It stopped being a sport many, many years ago.

I think its more that the hand over the heart has faded out. I always stand and take off my hat....can't say I remember the last time I covered my heart.

If you have a god given talent, you should try to hustle it for all it's worth. Shit, I'm still learning English.

Apparently, as the word is actually "hustle".

OT: Yes, if you are from the US, you should stand and be respectful and put your hand over your heart during the national anthem.

That's like saying Doctors aren't healers because they make a lot of money, Lawyers don't practice Law because they run a money making business, or Cops and Firefighters aren't protectors because they are overpaid and get a ton of pension...

No.

What the fuck kind of America do you imagine in your head?

It sounds quite un-American.

I am a vet and always stand during the national anthem. Sometimes I put my hand over my heart, sometimes I salute (yes, it now acceptable for vets to salute) and depending on the venue or event I will on occasion leave my hands at my side.

I am not offended by people who don't stand or put their hand over their heart. I don't know their background or what may be bothering them. This is, after all, a free country. There is no law that requires anyone to stand or even acknowledge the national anthem or flag.

I have to wonder about the OP's background and age that he is so judgmental of others.

No its not. I believe you just created a Straw Man argument for me. At the very least you put a lot of words in my mouth.

Doctors do heal. And if necessary they do it for free. Same with lawyers. Cops and firemen dont choose their salary and are also expected to do their jobs whether they get paid or get paid enough.

Modern football players are businessmen first, and athletes second (or even third, after product spokesmen).

And I have no idea where you got the notion about cops and fireman being spoiled. Now I think you're just reaching.

But reaching into what? :hmm:

Maybe they are not Republicans.

Democrats also stand and put their hand over their hearts. IMO, they're far more patriotic than Repubs. :p

I won't go so far as to say it pisses me off...but it's HIGHLY disrespectful IMO.

I ALWAYS stand, remove my hat, and hold my hand over my heart. I'd salute, but since I don't wear a uniform any more...it wouldn't be appropriate.

I only place my hand over my heart when we did the pledge of allegiance in grade school before the commies got it removed.

Star spangled banner does not need the hand over the heart part.
