Something strange with my ISP email acct.

I've had me email for several years now and I'm very cautious about who I give it to. As it is just for personal use I don't use it to sign up to forums or stupid crap so it rarely gets spammed.

But recently, I received two spam emails from a yahoo.com address using my friends actual first and last names to make it appear as if it came from them.

So does this mean that my email account may have been hacked?


The only other thing I can think of is that this is also the email I have associated with my facebook acct and I know alot of those apps and games access your personal info which I why I dont use any of them.

Most likely their accounts have been compromised, if they did not send the email.

They didnt send the email as the email addresses they came from were not thiers. Only their names were correct essentially

With all the data that has been stolen from Linkedin / Sony and that ilk, the spammers likely just have the names that go with the email addresses.

Your friends use Yahoo, you use social networking.
It could be either. Your account being hacked would be more along the lines that your friends are complaining to you that you are sending them viagra emails.

To be safe run housecall, change your passwords more frequently, make them more complex and stop using public hotspots.

I generally avoid public hotspots, but I do need to change my passwords more often.

But nobody I know uses yahoo.com. But I do suppose it could be a friend of a friend or someone got the name from one of those chain emails that are sent to a bazillion people.
