lol wtf... i guess the goal of the guy in front is to get the guy in back to get in front and the goal of the guy in back is to stay in back... that way, they can attack on the final lap easier and win, so they have to do this ridiculous standing still on the bikes bullcrap. just make it a one lap sprint... i mean, cmon...

look at their legs... jesus! they're bigger than tallbill's.

haha...is this still in the Olympics? wow. odd sport.

...and is that John Tesh as the 2nd commentator? :hmm:

anyhoo, I was strangely enthralled by that. It makes no sense, but it's still tense.

It's like watching Macho Man hover on a bike for 5 minutes.

this is a 100-something year old sport in need of some modernization, like i dunno, 1 freaking lap. is it still an olypic event? i doubt it would make it on to tv today.

i didn't know john tesh commentated on the olympics...must have been slow on entertainment tonight.

edit:
"both riding on what they call the 'cote d'azur', the blue ribbon."

the cote d'azur is the french riviera. the blue ribbon would be "cordon bleu" silly indeed.

It did get pretty intense at the end, despite it looking ridiculous in the beginning.

Zin feel better about posting THAN in size 30 font?

On topic, you know the crowd had to be blitzed to be cheering as they came to a stop. But when they do actually race, it is impressive.

Why wouldn't one guy just go faster from the start? I could probably make two laps faster than these guys just going at a leisurely pace on my crappy old bike.

What a stupid sport.

You are a silly clueless noob.

If someone went out fast from the start they would lose for sure. The other guy would just sit in the draft and pass at the end.

I did some more reading about sprint cycling and it seems like the point is to be in second place going into the final lap so you can draft the guy in first and thus win. So both guys go really really slowly in order to try to get the other to take (or stay in) the lead.

Although I wonder, couldn't one guy just pull away from the other near the beginning and get far enough ahead that the guy behind him couldn't take advantage of the drafting effect? I mean it can only work from so far back.
