Something really weird in UT

Ok, here's the deal. I have a PIII 450 with a voodoo banshee running under Win98 and UT worked fine just a week ago. Last week I had installed Direct X 8.0 and everything got messed up. First of all it took like 2 minutes just to load UT, before it took seconds. Then when I try to play online, it says CONNECTION FAILED! without even trying to connect. I have a 10mpbs connection and I have not changed any of the UT preferences, just installed DX 8.0

Then I went ahead and "uninstalled" DX 8.0, but the uninstall didn't go perfect, I had to manually do it so some files were messed up. Now I have upgraded to Win ME and Direct X 7.1 seems to work fine. However, the connecting and loading problems are still there.

Does anyone have any clue what the heck is going on?

BTW-I can play in practice mode fine, just that levels take sooo long to load compared to before.

why are you using direct x? UT would run TONSSSSS faster in glide. just scrap DirectX in UT.

ER: Even when using Glide UT will still use DirectX for other things, so a problem with DirectX may still occur when using Glide.

Mule: Are you using a recent(4.32+)version of UT? If not, try that. If I recall correctly, UT had some problems with some connections in it's earlier versions.
