Something like that would be cool!

When i move in June i'll have a spare room as a computer room/crack rack room! Anyone wanna send me old computer bits i'll hook them up to my 24 port hub and cable modem, and they can run Seti for whoever donated them!

Serious offer here guys! (so long as it's OK with my mum!) For those maybe who's husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend doesn't like lots of computers around the house....!

That is completely awesome :Q

When I have a house with a workshop or computer room I think I know how my next hobby might be taking shape :D

That seems pretty darn simple to put together! :Q

A few motherboards/CPUs, and a hub/switch, and place a few big long sticks through some of the ATX mounting holes, with something a bit bigger over the top of the sticks to put a gap between them!

Then all you need is a neat way of stacking the PSUs and attaching some form of tiny HDD or ZIP drive (i can get 250MB hdds from my college for £1 each....if you're interested in a setup like this anyone, anywhere, i'll go grab a few more :) - each one is fine for a minimal install of 98 and Seti :))

Now if only i had £2000.....anyone wanna help out for the TeAm!?

Verrrryyyy nice! :D

I'm surprised that those mobos aren't at least mounted on some sort of thin particle board or something. Considering that I have loose (caseless) mobos running myself, I'd be a bit nervous having the soldered leads exposed like that on the underside of each of those mobos! :Q

But at this point, I may have to go vertical too... :p

For those who were not around... Clay had built the Warp Core for Team AnandTech RC5 and had to shut it down because of the power bills.

From my addled mind, I seem to recall that the Warp Core had one computer as a server and twelve motherboards each running dual overclocked Celerons.

In the winter the heat would be welcomed but in the summer this would add a lot to any airconditioning bill you would have.

Most of us don't have Air con here in the UK so your bills would be ok(ish) :)........though you might fry in the summer;)

I'd be interested to see a price breakdown on a Tiger MP + dual 1700's. You'd save money on P/S's, RAM, drives, etc. Might be worthwhile to do it in dualies. Use linux for SMP capability, etc.

Viper GTS,

From where they bought the bits from (i'm guessing OcUK seeing as that't the team! :Q)

Their products (to build 2 machines)
Motherboards: £140
CPUs: £210
Memory: £70
Coolers: £36
PSUs: £22 (i'm guessing they're using the cheapy £11 250W ones)
Zip drives/disks: £96
Total: £574

Dualie:
Motherboard: £200
CPUs: £210
Memory: £80
Coolers: £36
PSU (decent one - 300W): £30 - Although they say that all PSUs on sale on their site are OK, so might be able to get away with the £11 one
Zip disk/drive: £48
Maybe LAN/Video
Total: £604

Hmm, VERY COOL. (not talking about temperature)

TA SETI needs a couple set ups like that...

I want one of those, even if only with like 2-3 things, just so that it looks cool. I bet it gets dusty if not kept clean...
