I'm just trying to understand your sudden, inexplicable concern for the well-being of the Video forum. I know I certainly tried hard enough back then to outst the biggest instigator while you and others were actively backing him up 110% and, in fact, calling me out for my attempts to get rid of him. So why the sudden change of heart if you felt this sort of behavior was acceptable back then?

Your last sentences here bother me a bit. Maybe you find it "fun" to constantly find yourself in not just average, but heated and inflammatory debates, but a lot of members here are growing tired of it. Halfway through reading your post here, you said you wouldn't object to more moderation, but wouldn't push for it either? I said to myself, "Why the heck wouldn't you?" You answered my question by telling me it is fun for you the way it is now. I'm a little dissappointed.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as someone who thought it was "fun" to argue and if that's what my words said than perhaps I need to re-phrase. Sure, debates can have their enjoyment level both in participation and observation, but having threads without arguments is always ideal.

The reason why I wouldn't push for more moderation is because, well, where would you begin? "No Witch-hunting" is a start I guess, but isn't everyone entitled to suspicion so long as they back it up with reasonable evidence? I'm sure you've at least thought someone might have AEG / HRC ties keysplayer and knowing you I imagine you didn't think so without having good reason.

I'll admit, I've thought certain members must have some deeper ties with a cetain company in either a focus groups or at least investments, but I learned early on not to make that my pillar for arguing something against them.

Part of the reason why some are still suspicious is because of the tactics that were displayed here before my time (Rollo I guess). It sounds like there was A LOT of mud being thrown everywhere and it seems to have left some stains. I don't know if people like Gamingphreek, Cookie Monster, beggerking, Nelsieus, etc. should be upset so much at those who make those suspicions or upset with the company that let an agent leave room for those suspicions to be made. If Rollo wouldn't have been such a horrible display of AEG and therefore, nVidia, I don't think these members would have anything to be suspicious of. In a way, it isn't just the members faults here. It is also nVidia's / AEG's fault as well.

If we are to moderate beyond the level of "witch-hunting" and continue to fanboy claims, "agenda" claims, and insults, we might as well do a forum revision and discard half of the emotions used in the chat boxes since some people can get just as offended by a roll-of-eyes, disgusted look, confused face, or even a wink in the wrong context. While we're at that, why don't we seperate some Games and Programming categories and fix the search. Get my meaning?

There are a lot of things that probably could use a touch-up, but for the most part some loss of sensitivity and contacting the proper authorities (the proper way) fixes just about every over-bearing ordeal. I've come to realize our Mod's are pretty good already and Video is able to handle most things on it's own. (It's been doing it for how long?)

I have seen the crap rolling through (no pun intended) and it just isn't going to get any better unless all involved get away from these forums for a while. the junk that went on is still fresh in the minds of the people who frequent these forums and alot falls back to maturity.

take away the toy for a while and see how the child responds. if they make better decisions after you give the toy back, then they get to keep it. if not, take it a away for good.

I never referred to you directly or indirectly.

As for your second point, you know that we have debated the issue at hand numerous times without using Slander or referencing Rollo/AEG in anyway.

But I agree with your last few points. I don't think I made it clear, or even stated it, but I of course am not perfect.

Irregardless, Moderating needs to be increased, and the AEG needs to be laid to rest permanently.

It is over because people began to troll my thread and add their opinion of the Vista thread. I don't see how this had anything to do with me being pompous or slanderous in any way shape or form. Additionally, I made this a general issue whereas you, among others, have personalized it.

I didn't make this thread to debate who was doing what, or who should be punished, I made this thread for the purpose of increasing moderating and to end the AEG accusations. Slader is going to happen, this is an online forum; I'm not asking for an end to it.

BenSkywalker, jpprod(I think that's how it was spelled), Soccerman(rip ), and plenty of other knowledgeable people having civilized debates, with the occasional flamewar to spice things up.

Now it's all flamewar, maybe with the occasional 5 post discussion once a week or so.

Damn shame.

BenSkywalker is still here and if you visit video - today - you can ask a reasonable question [like any other forum] and get reasonable answers ... without flaming whatsoever ... 95% of the current video threads are like ANYwhere else ...

The video forum *is* moderated; it just seems to have a higher threshold than the other sub-forums.

IMO they did a decent job with the whole Rollo/AEG fiasco.

Really and truly, they need to permaban a handful of people. There is a small group in there that constantly flames and spreads nonsense. With them gone, I'm convinced that peace would be 'restored' to the video forum!

I'd say a lot of this is a result of ATI getting their ass beat bad for the past 18 months by Nvidia. Most of the really bad crap and resident trolls started turning the heat up about 12 months ago. The ATI fanbois cant take the heat and lashout at anybody who dare insult their beloved ATI. Newsflash, ATI is dead, AMD owns that name now. Your side lost the battle, get over it.

I havent visited the video forums much as I find P&N much more logical and at least worth something to discuss. That places the Video forum slightly below dirt in case you dont know P&N.

i was there when you were ... In the Beginning
... it was somewhat like Beyond3D ... beyond belief in politeness ... even PM used to post there occasionally. ... i guess the viral marketing got *serious* and the fanboys flames got fanned further by "paid pros" ... i got really active again about the time of the 9800xt > 6800NU and started to debate Rollo [and his whole entourage] just because i like to debate [having fled from P&N and then OT as they were beyond juvenile and i lost interest there].

ANYway, Video Changed again - it turned totally pro-ATi and nvidia started getting bashed .... thanks mostly to the Rollo/AEG fiasco, the Forum *balance* has decidedly shifted pro-ATi ... and i can see the nvidia fans getting *shut down* and *irritated* --as the ATi fans used to be

As far as GenX and his opinion of me and his opinion of Video card companies in general ...

and nvidia evidently DOES compensate "you" for defending their shortcomings on Anandtechs video forum. ... that IS viral marketing.
