Something I've noticed about aging celebrities on TV

Have you noticed that when you see many aging celebrities on commercials or in music videos they appear to have some kind of filter which makes their faces glow, smoothing out the appearance of any wrinkles. For example... Look at the Old Navy commericals with Morgan Fairchild. They filmed her shots with a sort of blurry image that obsures fine details of her face. It's like they put a piece of glass over the television camera lens. I saw a Martina McBride music video earlier today and notice the same thing. Everyone else in the video was shot normally, however, she had some kind of filter applied to dull her features. Weird.

It's just more diffusion over the lens than normal. It's an old school film and tv trick and it's not just for old celebs that want to cover up their wrinkles.

It's called the "Barbara Walters filter."

I thought the BW filter was actually a piece of plywood that was placed in front of the camera. Its an old school film and tv trick that frankly, isnt used enough ;>)
