Something is eating my system resources!

My Computer:

Windows 2000
Pentium III 700 Mhz OC'd to 903Mhz (very stable)
384MB RAM
ATI All in Wonder 128 Pro 32 MB
IBM 30GB

I have one application, CyberGenie, which just kills my system when it is running. I can see that the CPU is 99% idle, and there is plenty of RAM. How can I check the I/O? That's the only other thing I can think of.

The problem is really weird. When CyberGenie is running some applications run really slow, and some normal. For example, installing software (doesn't matter what it is) takes about 10 minutes after double clicking until the installer unpacks and hits 100% and is ready for the installation process. WIthout CyberGenie running, it takes 5 seconds. Starting up Photoshop is very slow. It takes about 1 minute, slowly reading in all the fonts, while normally, it is up in seconds. But some applications, like IE or Outlook run just fine.

Anyone have any ideas? How can I see what's happening under the hood here?

Thank you.

Try using the default system monitoring software that comes with your OS.

The only monitoring thing I found with Win2K didn't show me anything other than CPU usage. I can tell that there is plenty of CPU and Memory. I think it is a disk I/O issue. Because some programs are just so slow to start up. You don't hear the hard drive thrashing either. It's bizarre. I don't know what else to do other than not run this program, but I really need that program! Thanks for any tips.

The program is the CyberGenie phone system software. It's a whole integrated voice mail system. It is supported under win2k, but unfortunately, Cygnion, the company that makes it, filed chapter 11 :(

Ctrl-Shift-Esc opens Windows Task Manager
Processes tag
View - select columns...

It's shows the CyberGenie processes and shows the CPU Time and Memory usage. CPU Time is 0:00:00 and Memory is normal. That's not it. Something else is killing it....Priorities maybe? I dunno. Maybe it has a lock on something and it doesn't give it up?

If CyberGenie isn't at ~99 CPU utilization in Task Manager, what IS? Something has to be using the CPU-or several processes are combining to equal ~99. Even if it's just the System Idle Process, post what processes are using the CPU and that will help track down the problem...

Thanks, I found the abnormal cybergenie process..... The CPU, Memory, I/O, etc is all OK, but what is high is the VM SIZE. It is 8,508K. I don't know what VM size is? Virtual Memory? Why would it be so much higher than anything else? There is nothing eating my CPU or memory, it's always free.....
