I had a thread about this issue last week. I thought my software firewall was causing a conflict, but even after I disabled it, I get the same problems.
Router: Netgear WGR614v3 with the latest firmware
OS: xp pro
Network: MSI K8T neo FIS onboard LAN (latest drivers)
Cable Internet: rcn (which has been largely problem free for the last two years. I've had literally 0 downtime in 2004)
I thought disabling the firewall had fixed the problem, because I had no disconnects at all yesterday or the day before but today it's done it half a dozen times.
What happens is, the "pc" light on my cable modem will shut off and the router reboots itself at seemingly random times. Could heat be causing this? It does tend to get pretty hot in my room when the air is off, and the router itself runs pretty hot. Its a wireless router, and I do have it set up to broadcast SSID (with encryption) but the problem happens whether or not someone is using the wireless.
I'm stumped. I can't think of any other settings to play around with. I could go in and change the MTU setting, but I can't guess how that relates to the router actually powering down and restarting.
