something is blocking/slowing down my network.

A couple months ago I made some changes to my network. Mainly because when the microwave in the kitchen was on it knocked out my main PC's network connection (2.4GHz 802.11G)

old way----------------------------------
2) WRT-54G's running tomato

Both routers were setup as access point/WDS.

cable modem-->router 1----WDS----router2----->main computer.
also attached to router 1 was my HTPC, and HDHomerun tuners.

everything worked fine except slow transfer speeds between the 2 computers and the microwave knocking things out.

new way---------------------------------------

same routers running DD-WRT (couldn't get tomato to work...weird)

router 1 is regular router/access point.
router 2 is configured as a switch only/
***I have a home powerline connection between the 2 routers*****

---the problem----------------------
If I test my internet download speeds I can get 8-9MB down from the computer going through the powerline adapter

but when I transfer files between computers I only get 4-500KB/s transfer speeds.

I am trying to use a program with a webserver builtin running on port 8080
(calibre e-book management software)

this used to work fine on my old way of doing things. now I can connect if I goto 127.0.0.1:8080 but not if I go to the IP address (i.e. 192.168.1.xxx:8080)

I almost feel like there is a firewall running somewhere.D:

any ideas on where to start looking is apprecoated
