you know though it seems foolish to use the low(er) end video cards to supply benchmarks on something that would best be shown on bottlenecked (read higher end) video cards?

am i missing the point or wouldn't we be better informed if using more adaquate hardware and yes i realize that the 8x agp is marketing hype but the 4400 showed a bit of an increase and i'm curious as to whether the same would be said of the 9700?and if even small it would be best to upgrade the motherboard for the gains?

let's say you get an average of a 5% gain fron 8X vs 4X. let's say you're running 60fps in ut2k3 and 5% of 60 is 3 so you only get 3fps more from it.


is that worth the $100+ for a new mobo? I'd say spend the money on a new CPU instead

aAfter reading the article I can see you missed the first page!

In essence they say "It's interesting to see that ONLY the 2 most popular models on the Nvidia product line have been upgraded to 8x (the MX440 and Ti4200) while the faster Ti4400/4600 are still 4x AGp parts. This shows that Nvidia is doing this as a marketing strategy for the OEM market where 8 is greater than 4 thus 8x is better than 4x."

See why 8x is a waste? 🙂
 
yes but for all intents and purposes a 9700 woul have nailed it down and proven that it won't help.

incomplete benchmarks leave room for speculation😉

There aren't any software packages out there yet that require the fill rates that AGP 8x is capable of and until they start showing up, it will be hype, but there will be need for it. DOOM3 will be optimized for 8x and a few 3d rendering software packages will sure to be fast to empliment it's capabilities(auto-cad). It's like having an LT1 engine and waiting for the drive train for your suped up vette. You can't use the engine very well with the stock gearing, but give it some breathing room and wow!
