No, never used FRAPS. The COD4 mid-50s frame claim comes from the in game stat running in the upper right corner of the game while playing (and mid-30s on Overgrown). It's a dead steady 60 FPS at 16x10 with vsync enabled.

I have to check L4D because I honestly don't know what FPS I'm getting. All I know is it runs super-smooth with the settings I indicated. And I used a 1280 x 1024 CRT for years up until 3 weeks ago so believe me I'd know if it was borderline slide-showy.

My vid-card is the special edition G80 640 with the 112sp (like the 8800gt) but has a wider 320-bit bus, FYI.

well according to this review, the GTX - a much faster card than the GTS - drops to 37 FPS as a minimum at 19x12. Of course L4D is CPU-bound source engine *anyway* and the GTS should probably be closer to 34 or 35 as a minimum. Still OK, for sure!

http://www.pcgameshardware.com...nchmark_review/?page=2]
and CoD4 IS more intensive; i believe legit reviews had GTX averaging 42 FPS; that GTS will average in the 30s for sure and drop from there

but what you have got to realize that there are WAAY more demanding games than these games
- games that need a really fast GPU

if you only want new Source Engine games or only play '07 games like CoD4, then you are right. But i have an very long list that is getting longer that shows the 8800 GTX is past it's day as a "great gaming card"

Firstly....relax with the

and end with some  (It's more manly :D).

And on your comments...that is what we're debating....why buy a new $200 video card if you have an 8800GTX that is capable of playing said games with the eye candy turned down. It's not worth it for many people....even if it is for you. To each their own.

I'm downloading right now...I'm curious to see what all the fuss is about. Maybe I should drop in my G92 8800GT SC and run it in DX10 Mode also...might be interesting...

I will post results.

OK...so I downloaded the freakin 380+MB file, and this is what it came back with, default settings @ 16x10:

MIN AVG MAX
Day 18.9 36.7 68.1
Night 21.1 47.5 83.9
Rain 29.4 53.9 81.9
Sun Shafts 16.7 31.6 52.4

I'm not sure what I was missing, but all the tests seemed to run pretty smooth...

I'm not sure what

If you can get 150 for your gtx on ebay, you can pocket 20 or 30 bones by purchasing a $120 AR HD4850 and have a better gpu and more dinero!

some people are afraid of change. Right now the GTX still gets a premium; it is usually wise to sell it and get a faster card before its value drops way lower.
- if he really can get $150, a "fifty dollar upgrade" to 4870 will really increase performance

I'm not sure what
- default - what the hell is "default" ? that is LOW settings the devs set for YOUR slow card; what resolution and level of detail? - 7x10 and Dx9 'low'?
--try running it on DX10 high setting and see if you note a visual difference [besides the fact your frame rates take a nose dive]

Challenge your card you wusses; no more friggin flowers for you :p

As I stated, setting was 16x10 (1680x1050). As for the DX10 Setting, it's not a DX10 Card, but that was the setting it was set to. If you notice my sale thread, I have been asking $100 for my 8800GT SC (g92) and $120 for my 8800 GTX 768. I would like to get a newer card, just not at the cost of $150...I don't think I will see that much of a difference.

An Intel SSD, I would notice, removing a 8800GTX and dropping in a 260, not much there...I could be wrong...been wrong before.

So, OP, what program did you run to show your chip had both sensors stuck/dead/inop?

8800GTX is a DX10 card .. it runs it fine .. just slow

try setting them all to "high" .. it LOOKS a hellofalot better

you would like a GTX260

Real Temp. Just run a sensor test.
