Something i dont understand regarding Hotmail and MSN

This has nothing to do with msn live, msn 7.5 or any other version.

I make this post cause i am curious.
why is it when i delete my old hotmail accounts (by going to hotmail.com and logging in and delete it from there), i still can log in to msn just fine

dont they share same database or something?

eventually, if you dont use your hotmail for like 7 days, it will become inactive and people wont be able to send emails to it, even though you log in to MSN every day.
explain plz

Single authentication system, multiple uses. One being email, another being instant messaging. It was once microsoft's goal to have everybody on the internet use their passport system for all authentication (so you could sign into paypal or something with your passport account). Obviously that didn't pan out.

so how would i delete my msn account?

i know i could just change pass or stop logging in, but i would like to delete it completly.
as in... have no access it all.
