I'm working w/a Presario 6100(?). It's set up w/a 1.1GHz Athlon, 512mb ram & nVidia graphics card.
I was doing a fresh install of XP. Everything was going good...everything thing was being recognized w/o having to download any drivers.
When I got the last update & restarted my machine, it freezes @ the Compaq splash screen w/a "162-System Options Not Set" error.
I've tried holding down on the DEL key when rebooting, i've cleared the CMOS, i've switched batteries & I even took the HDD out & ran Kill Disk on it on another PC, but I still get that error.
Ideas anyone?
Thanks.

I can't get into the bios. The screen is frozen at the splash screen. I've tried hitting DEL & F10.
I cleared the CMOS via the jumper on the motherboard.

okay, sounds like a bad motherboard, from the error code and the fact you can not get into the bios at all. when you jumpered did you put the jumper back to it's original position?

Yes, I put the jumper back in the original position.

That didn't work, but thanks.
I may try a different hard drive or check this one for errors. Even though I zeroed it out ok, it's making a nasty sound at startup. Dunno if that's the trouble or not, but i've just noticed it.

The issue is as described on the HP web page - and they say you should either reset the BIOS or schedule a repair.

At this point, since (I assume you were talking about step 1 when you said "that didn't work") you say it didn't work, it's time to schedule a repair.

& since it's old as dirt, it probably isn't worth doing that.
So if it's the motherboard, I guess it's time to salvage some parts. :)
