something got into window 7 now need multiple clicks

Have windows 7 installed and keep avg current also use spybot and Superantispyware and have kept my sytem running smoothly. last week I saw a MS windows theme package ( pretty sure it was from MS itself ) of holiday wallpaper and theme. I downloaded installed and also at the same time there was a couple of updates to windows ( just normal update like malware removal tool ). After wards a day or so later my system now requires multiple clicks to open a file or to start a program VERY annoying. HELP what is it and how to correct?

BTW I rarely download anything and mainly use my computer for work.

Sounds like you might have a failing microswitch in your left mouse button to me. I'd try swapping it out before you waste a bunch of time trying to fix things that aren't broken.

If the mouse checks out, you might check the mouse settings in control panel and make sure that your left mouse button settings haven't gotten screwed up.

You can also try to roll back Windows to a restore point prior to the problem to see if it was an issue with the recent updates.
