Something funky with Windows ME and floppy drive

I have a friend who's got an computer that has Win Me on it. After it boots up, goes past everything and starts Me, it's looking for something on the a: drive. It runs the a: drive for about 45 seconds or so, then continues on. I searched the registry, startup, and everything else I can think of. I was just wondering if anybody knew what was going on.

Thanks

I had that happen the other night on a client's system running 98SE. The problem was the boot diskette. I tried a different one and it worked OK.

When you use a boot diskette and have the BIOS set to the A,C sequence, it really doesn't matter what OS is in the computer because it never gets that far.

I have three machines with ME and can boot them to anything with a floppy . . . including MS DOS 5. 🙂

System->Performance->File System->Floppy disk - uncheck "search for new floppy drives each time Windows starts".
