I think P&N is a good way to prevent polarization but it seems like alot of the contributers to P&N are polarized.

Sorry if its a repost I did a search

Cliff notes: The ability for people to filter what they see on the internet leads to polarization of groups which leads them to be more extreme. Since, they are only seeing what agrees to their view points.

Good read... realistically, just like a regular newspaper, an internet newspaper is hard to tailor so closely that you dont see "random" bits of news.

Still, I agree 110% with the comments about internet polarization

How can you not be polarized when you only have 2 parties to choose from? Sure you can vote for Green, Libertarian etc. locally but on a national level you really only have 2 choices.

The trend I see is that post-WWII, politics/political identity etc. are increasingly defined on a national level here in America. Mass media has become so nationalized that we hardly ever pay attention to local politics. When was the last time anyone here went to a town hall meeting? Served as an alderman? Voiced concerns to city hall over a new ordinance? We just take it all for granted...we're too caught up with abortion, gun control and other things that have little or nothing to do with an average citizen's day-to-day living.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if we as citizens did NOT get a vote in national elections. For example...we would only vote for representatives at the town/city/county level (with maybe a vote for state governor.) These elected representatives in turn would vote for state senators and congressfolk they send to Washington (or choose representatives amongst themselves.) Then the folks in Washington pick one amongst them to be President. I think we'd have less partisan politics and more work being done in coalitions. What do you think?
