You lost your job!

Or rather - someone else took it. It would seem that in schools today the only thing that matters is seniority. My wife is/was a high school spanish teacher and apparently a good one at that. According to her principal she "got the highest first year teacher review scores" he has ever giving during his 25 years and was "doing better than most of the 3 and 4 year teachers here" Her department head loves her as well.

What does that earn her?

Bupkiss

Because some @sshat decided that he didn't want to teach middle school world languages class anymore and wanted her job. So, since he has seniority in the district - he gets it. No if ands or buts. Doesn't matter that he hasn't ever taught a full load of spanish classes before*

WTH??!!

If this is how we treat teachers no wonder our school system sucks

*(he does have a spanish minor though and thus the certs necessary to steal the job)

Yep, it sucks as does tenure at universities. The only way out is to teach at a private school.

They still can follow plenty of seniority. The heads of the departments at my private school are the most senior members of their respective departments, even if they aren't the best organizers or teachers.
