Seriously. With so many BB-bashing threads, you'd think it's a trendy fad or something to bash them.

I've recieved many PM's requesting that I volunteer my thoughts on BestBuy. Well, OK, I haven't actually received the PMs yet...but they are coming...really. ;)

I like BestBuy because of their selection of products. They have all the latest DVD titles as well as some obscure ones that turn out to be cool, or that I've been looking for, for quite awhile. To me, their CD collection is nothing short of amazing. When it's a CD you've been trying to find for a year or so, you don't mind paying $15 for it. At least I don't. If you can get it cheaper elsewhere, good for you. However, good luck trying to find that same CD elsewhere. BBuy simply has the biggest selection of any RETAIL store I've seen.

They have a nice selection of PC/Laptop/basic Networking products/cables/peripherals. They get all the latest stuff pretty quickly as well.

Their prices are retail. This is not news, as they ARE a RETAIL store. Duh. Their sale prices/promotional stuff are pretty good.

Yes, they have a bunch of 16-year old highschool students that know absolutely nothing about what they are selling working there. To that I say; where did you work when you were 16? Right. At the local Mega-whateverwesell Store. Again, duh.

My local BBuy has an excellent store manager. I've had return hassles there b/c the customer service kiddies (excuse, me; customer service PERSONNEL) had no idea what they were doing. When I asked for the manager, she was professional, courteous and flat out told me "I see you in here all the time...you pay my salary, I'd be glad to take that back for you and refund your money."

I am not kidding, either; that's what happened. I'm in there every week. That speaks for itself.

This has been an editorial by MichaelD. Please refer any questions to the author. If you have questions, please do ask. If you find me boring and outlandish, please do continue to ignore me, but we do appreciate your cooperation in this time of strife. :)

I like Best Buy also. They have great prices on CDs, DVDs, computer peripherals, CD-Rs, etc.

Although if you have to return something to Best Buy B&M, that isn't always a pleasant experience.

Well, I don't love BB, but they're better than CompUSA!

Especially in terms of returns. I also like their open-box deals. :)

i have never had a problem with a return. I have even returned open software and gotten my money back. You just have to be courteous, but firm. :)

That is maturity speaking. I like nice people. :)

Most folks FORGET (conveniently) that being "nice" greatly increases your chances of getting what you want. If you walk in, slam your nonfunctioning CDRW down on the counter and yell:

"Hey stupid! I bought this POS last week and now it's broken! I want my damn money back NOW!"

Then you deserve to be thrown out on your ear. Yes, the customer is always right, but sometimes it helps if the customer is not a complete ass, either.

klee58 and her proverbial donkey balls, when will it ever end?

Anyhow, I've got something which sucks way more than Best Buy and CompUSA.

Staples takes the crown for "most is suck", there's no denying that.

Another Best Buy fan here. I also get those 10% coupons every now and then and they can knock off a considerable amount of a big purchase. If I can't find a good deal online (which, surprise surprise, does happen every now and then), and I don't feel like getting raped on a S&H charge, then Best Buy is the best B&M store out there for electronics.

If you don't like Best Buy, don't shop there. However, constantly bitching about a store is for the pathetic and weak. Obviously, we aren't the only people that like Best Buy, since they have become the number one electronics retailer.

My favorite bitch and moan is "We should boycott Best Buy!"

Yeah sure, I'm sure BB is going to be really upset that a bunch of bargain-seekers that use any means possible (including using coupons that weren't sent to them, trying to price match a misprint, etc...) aren't going to shop there anymore. The real funny thing is that these same bitchy people keep going back and keep bitching.

I like Best Buy as well. If there is a CD/DVD/Computer Game/blank CD's/etc I want to buy, I head to the BB. I can't stand Circuit City, Staples or CompUSA.

If you go to Best Buy having already done your research, it is a fine place to shop. No one will generally bother you. If you go there looking for answers to questions or are relying on their staff to recommend something, good luck. I worked for a Best Buy YEARS ago and I know first hand that they attract two things:

Some of the least knowledgable employees ever
Some of the dumbest customers ever

People always rag on their employees for not knowing anything about computers, etc. I think the reason for that is if you are as knowledgable about PC's as myself or most people on this forum, then you are working at a technical job making twice what employees at BB make. Working at Best Buy isn't about overall knowledge as it is having the ability to deal with people with a minimal understanding of the product that you are selling them, and having the patience to deal with people in general.

I like shopping at BestBuy although I THOROUGLY hate having to return something there. I don't know if it's just the fact that our store here in Birmingham is particularly slow, but if you have to return something then God help you. You'll be in that line for 30 minutes if there's more than 2 people in front of you. It's truly sickening. I still try to buy from Circuit City whenever possible simply because I've had no problems with returns there (plus they've given me some great open box home audio deals over the years.)

I do like BestBuy's DVD prices/selection and the way they ALWAYS have tons of good deals on open box computer hardware. It's fun to walk around in on your lunch break.

I like them cause they are the best out there. Circuit city? No. Nobody goes there. Compusa? No way... all they sell is peripherals. You can't even go in and get a CPU for farks sake. Nor can you in best buy but at least the word "comp" isn't in their name. I like to walk around bestbuy all day looking at stuff.

I have my beefs with Best Buy, but to be honest, if it weren't for Best Buy my only other options would be surely sh!ty..er Circuit City, Sears and a few small A/V specialty stores in this town.

My beefs with Best Buy: :Their refusal to carry some high end stuff, their bad employees, lack of parking, being bugged for extended warrantees and the fact that they are mobbed whenever I want to go there.

The only thing I like is that Beast Buy is there for me to pricematch with other retailers. I will NEVER buy anything from them again.

You BB fanboys will get burned . . . eventually . . . in the meantime, 'happy shopping' there (and good luck).

EDIT:

There are many concrete REASONs for BB bashing threads. ;)

I can count on bestbuy to make me spend money on stuff I don't need, but I'm glad it's there :). I have two in relative close proximity, when a new game comes out, if one doesn't have it on release day, the other one does. They always seem to have some sort of deal after rebate on CDRs as well, which is nice.

I don't find the sales guys too pushy, as long as I look like I know what I want. Circuit City, on the other hand, is horrible. I went there looking for a car charger for my cellphone, and they kept trying to talk me in to switching service providors. And they work on commission, which doesn't help matters. The circuit city here also has probably the worst layout ever, with registers sporatticly scattered around the store.

My only complaint about bestbuy is the fact that most sales guys will flat out lie to you to sell the warranty plans. I've had that happen to me on several occasions :|

for non computer hardware related shopping, bestbuy is great! However, I do feel their customer service is lacking... and black friday shopping was handled like a nitemare!! They're good points and bad points. Overall, I find myself shopping more often than not. Kind of a love/hate relationship.

I actually love Best Buy for screwing me over on my last hassle. I bought a 60GB Maxtor hard drive (still shrinkwrapped in the box), but when I opened it it was only a 40GB drive. Of course Best Buy wanted nothing to do with it (and yes, I was as courteous as anyone could possibly be when talking to them) so I had to go to Maxtor. Maxtor was actually more than glad to help me out and sent me out a new drive, except they sent me a 80GB drive, an ATA133 80GB drive, with a free ATA133 controller in the box! So, thanks Best Buy for being jerks about it.

I try to avoid shopping at Best Buy whenever I can, but there is no way around the fact that they have such a tremendous selection across the whole spectrum of household items (I even bought my vacuum from them) and their prices, while more expensive than you find online (duh!), are quite reasonable. I don't worry about the ignorant workers there because I know what I want when I go into the store and I don't need to ask questions. I simply say no to their extended warranties (though I am about to do battle with them again - I bought a laptop, got the extended warranty, and there is a problem with the PCMCIA slot) and go on my way.

One thing to point out to those that do shop at Best Buy - make sure you have an employee open your purchase before you leave the store so you can inspect the contents. One thing they seem to be absolutely clueless on is that their gracious return policy has resulted in a lot of crap making it onto their shelves, and I'm not just talking about open box items. I have purchased a video card that contained nothing but a book, a CD-RW drive that was missing the driver CD (which contained a copy of Nero and was my primary reason for buying the drive), and the aforementioned hard drive. All of these were "factory sealed" boxes, not open item boxes. In the case of the video card, I was able to talk to a manager and get store credit, and I got a replacement for the CD-RW drive, but in both cases it required several return visits to the store before finally getting to speak to the actual store manager. So, whether you are buying "factory sealed" or "open box" items (you certainly don't trust the person working the return counter to be able to deem a returned product as containing all items, do you?), always have a store employee open the box before leaving the premises so you can ensure you are actually walking away with what you purchased. And happy shopping.

Another satisifed customer here... Granted they have their flaws just like any other retailer, but hell.. They still rock...
