Audion is free. That's what I used to use back in the day. Do a search on macupdate.com or versiontracker.

its inefficient, ram intensive (relative or other mp3 progs), its forced upon you if you want to install quicktime, it has processes running at all times (iTunes help and iPod thingy) whether you use them or not (even if you dont own an iPod). if you use it while playing a game or something, it messes up alot (may have just been my bad hardware on my older comp but it annoyed me enough to stop using it)

at least, thast why i dont like it.
feature-wise and ease of use, its pretty damn good.

my reasons were pretty legit for prefering other mp3 playing programs. especially the quicktime thing.

If I'm not mistaken QT frameworks are built into the OS and Quicktime is installed with a default install of Mac OS X.

To me, it can be a little intensive at times, but I've never found it to me inefficient. Runs like a charm on my G4 PB.

well last night, when i plugged my ipod in, the damn thing auto syncs with itunes...and then it ended up like deleting my songs automatically...cuz now i cant even access them, even when i do it just thru the ipod, it just skips every song. So I need a program that is free, or accesible some other way *cough*. I liked ephpod...thats what I used on a PC.

On the PC version true, but the OSX version of iTunes is much better.

As for the OP, I used the Audion software in the past but have been using iTunes since it came out.

Im not sure what happened to your songs. I will guess that you had all your music on your ipod added from another computer, and the database on Mac/itunes blank. Then when you plugged it in, it "autosyncd" to the itunes database *empty* and deleted all the files on your ipod ?

If so, you can turn off autosync in the prefrences. You would need a 3rd party app to get the music from the pod to the mac*assuming the above is the case, and you have backup on the other computer*. Search versiontracker as mentioned above, there are several apps out there that do this now.

For other ideas, you might want to check the forums on:
