i was just thinking about ebay. have u ever seen an auction where the seller obnoxiously rapes ppl on shipping, in order to keep the final bid price low? it seems that when ebay assesses the final auction fees, they do not take into consideration the shipping price. for example... if i were to sell an xbox on ebay, i would start the auction for like $1 and put in big bold letters that shipping will be $100. if the auction ended at $10, ebay would charge me their final auction fee based on $10. at least thats how i think they do it (i just checked my previous invoices from ebay). hmm... should i try it?

In "My Ebay" on the list of items you are watching sometimes you can see the ship price for reference.

But yea, sucks when they try to do that. You can always take your money elsewhere.

Done exactly that myself on bigger ticket items.

no no no dude... i will be doing the raping to keep the final bid low... thus lowering the final auction fee. if i sell an xbox and rape someone on shipping... the auction price will end low... say maybe $20. in that case, the final auction fee on ebay would be maybe $1? but if i charge normal shipping rates for an xbox... let's say normal shipping is $15... then the auction price will end higher.... lets say $110. with auction ending price of $110... i think the final auction fee would be closer to $5. so yeah... i'm just trying to be cheap here :p

I don't think you HAVE to accept pickup do you?

Also I've seen this a lot for DVDs and such from overseas. I think they want to keep the price down more for import/export duties than screwing eBay.

I've seen lots of people have insanely high ship rates but never realized that you don't get fees on the shipping. Wouldn't surprise me if you started to see that included for people that use static shipping rates. But I always look at that when buying and calculate the total to get a good comparison if multiple people are selling the same thing.

i think ebay cracks down on people who do this...at least I heard they do. I'm sure they frown upon it a lot. It's probably not a good idea to do it just to save a few bucks.

yeah.. not worth it in my opinion. You risk your ratings & that really is a big factor on ebay.

Of course Ebay frowns upon it, thats costing them money! Nowhere in their terms and conditions do they prohibit that though.

Also, nobody really gives a crap about ratings, and people aren't dumb about the shipping ordeal either.

You do have people who bitch and complain about high shipping costs and what not, but they're just noobs. True ebayers know the whats up.
