im selling a computer on craigslist (lol way overpriced), and i know i am getting scammed. here are the emails.

Scammer:
Hello, is your item still in goood condition........
Me:
yes it is in very good condition. however, the blue cold cathodes went out so i am ordering a new kit. those pictures were very recent right after the cold cathodes went out. it went out because i was using a very old dual inverter, and there is no problem with power. i have it hooked up currently to a voltmeter and i am watching my input voltage and output voltages are fine. there are no surges in the case either.

now check his reply:

Scammer:
Thanks for your reply concerning my enquiry.I am interested in the
item and my only method of payment is by sending you a standard money
order via {US Postal Money Order} because it's the fastest and secure
way of sending money and also funds are highly guaranteed. I can't
use paypal any longer because i have been ripped off by it
before, inorder to know more about this ,kindly go to: www.paypalsucks.com

This is how {US Postal Money Order} works :

Once payment has been made, both the buyer and seller are notified by
{US Postal Money Order} via email that the transaction has been
processed and approved. After this approval confirmation, {US Postal
Money Order} will then mail out your money order directly to your
residence within 3-5 business days which will arrive by mail and will
be in U.S funds. I just wanna present this item to my fiance as a
gift. As for the shipping of the item, it will be done through my
FedEx account, so you don't have to pay for any shipping charges
after shipment has been made. Inorder for me to complete this
transaction through my {US Postal Money Order} account, all i need
from you is your full name, address and likewise your phone so as to
know where payment will arrive after receiving the approval
notification confirming on your payment. I look forward in doing
business with you.

N.B
Since the system is still in great condition,i am willing to make an
offer for an amount of $1110 including packaging.

aside from the fact that this is local only, ive heard of this scam before. what should i do to him? anandtech decides :)

oh yea... ppppowerbook :)

Get the USPS MO, take it to the Post Office. They will cash if it's legit. If it's not, e-mail the buyer saying screw you.

If he doesn't want to do it this way, just move onto the next scammer.

I thought the way they usually do it is send a fake check or whatever...

i seem to recall one where a guy had some scammer pay for the shipping in advance on alot of "systems" which were just random junk thrown into boxes.

Just tell them that you have had good experiences with USPS Money Orders and it is very convenient. Get them to send you the money order and if it turns out to be fake get them to send out another money order from western union or another major place to get a money order.
Make sure they send it via snail mail so they waste their money.

Seems to be a lot of this going around. There have been some other threads about the same kind of scam here on ATOT lately. Don't trust this buyer...just move on to the next potential buyer.

Wow, AT used to be all about messing with scammers. I guess it happens to often now, no one cares to take the time. Probably for the best.

I remember that one :)
The scammer sent him $50 or something like that...
The person scamming the scammer claimed he was a priest who didn't have direct access to the church's money. He needed the small amount of money to make something or other possible so that the original scammer could be sent 10's of thousands of dollars.
