I purchased an upgrade to Drive Image 7.0 off of Symantec's website, so I did not get any media (i.e., a CD) with it.

I unzipped the downloaded file....found the setup.exe file...and the program installed just fine.

All's well, EXCEPT that to restore your C:\ drive, the program wants you to put its CD into the drive so that it can boot from it. It's supposed to boot into what they call the Powerquest Recovery Environment.

Trouble is, of course, I haven't got a stinkin' program CD!

I've copied all the executables I could find and burned them onto a CD, but the machine still won't boot to it. (And yes...my CD drive is set as the first boot device). I've also expanded the zip file onto the CD and still no dice. One would think they would have given the user an option to choose from within the program to make a bootable CD, but no such luck.

If someone could be so kind as to look into the CD that came with the program and give me an idea as to how I should make mine look...I'd be very grateful (a screenshot would be even better!).

Thanks,

-Taz

In drive image 6 there is a folder with the DOS version, it has files like
MOUSE.COM
PQDI.EXE
PQDI.OVL
and includes a hidden file you need for it to run
PQDI.RTC

So if you find that folder, take it and copy the files to a DOS diskette,
-or- use a bootdisk.com W98 with CD drivers diskette and put the files in the data / non-boot part of the bootbale CD

I appreciate the response, however, DI 7.0 must be a different animal...DOS files are there, but no PQDI.EXE, PQDI.OVL, or PQDI.RTC to be found. I'm beginning to wonder if the download came with all the files that normally come on the program disk.

And, of course, still no response from their so-called tech support.

Found the answer. Helps to flip through ALL of the text files (DOH!) Also feel like a dummy for not noticing the .ISO file.

From one of the Readme files:

To install PowerQuest Drive Image, you must first
burn the downloaded Drive Image .ISO image to a CD.

You will need the following:

-One blank CD-R disc (Do not use a CD-RW disc.)
-The Drive Image .ISO image (downloaded from the
PowerQuest web site)
-A CD creation program, such as Nero Burning ROM or
Roxio's Easy CD Creator, that is capable of burning
ISO images to a CD

IMPORTANT! Do not use the "Copy" feature in Windows XP;
it is not capable of burning an .ISO image to a CD.

Nero Burning ROM - Use the "Burn Image" feature to
burn the .ISO image to CD. Refer to the software's
documentation for further instructions.

Easy CD Creator - Use the "Create CD from Disc Image"
feature to burn the .ISO image to CD. Refer to the
software's documentation for further instructions.

After the .ISO image is burned to CD, you can install
Drive Image.

In addition to being the CD for the installation, the Drive
Image CD serves as a bootable copy of the PowerQuest
Recovery Environment (PQRE), which you can use to restore
backup images. Therefore, be sure you store the CD in a
safe and secure place. For more information about the
PQRE, refer to the Drive Image documentation.
