someone try to remove the floppy??

can i remove the floppy disk of comp?
the fact is i never use it.
(only when i install win2000 , i need the
floppy for my promise driver)
is there way to boot without the floopy?

Ya [disable floppy seek] in your bios[some MB you have to disable the floppy controller in bios to,and set drive in bios to {none}CMOS ithink , and set ur boot settings to CDrom first, you can boot from the w2k cd. I have a bootable w 98 CD i made with nero for formatting/flashing bios etc, come in handy

well u can remove it but the problem is if u have a raid motherboard or scsi device then u will have to have it if u are going to be installing win2000.

The computer can run fine without it...but why remove it?

I use mine far less than once a month, but those times I do use it it's invaluable....and there's no really good reason to get rid of it besides it doesn't look cool.

You need it to install Promise Drivers on Win2k install, you need it for ERD for any of the special Win2k volume types....

well , the reason i want to remove it....is because i want to put a 100 meg zip drive
ho!! another question : can i boot with a scsi zip drive?
and i dont care about the looking good or not 🙂

I have a zip drive and a floppy, I just got a 3.5" to 5.25" adapter and mounted the Zip in a 5.25" bay.

yes you can boot from SCSI zip drive with no problem just as I do now on occasion of need, I've no floppy drive and normally boot from a Magneto-Optical, only some of the times from zip drive.

I think whether you can boot from a SCSI zip drive depends on the SCSI card itself. Some cheap SCSI cards do not support being booted from. I have a zip-zoom card, and I don't think it supports being used as a boot up device.

In any case, you can always make a bootable CD and boot from that, if needed.

if i want to install windows2000(bootable CD) it ask me for the promise fasttrack driver
for my raid system , this is no problem with a floppy drive .
is there way to load the promise driver without the floppy drive...
and my scsi controller is a adaptec 2940au pci.

so exactly what do you want to boot from? if not the floppy then blast it. you want to boot from a SCSI. what does your bios say? does it find it?
