I downloaded a zipped file from Morpheus and extracted it to a folder. I went to look for the install file and found one with an icon and it was called "deltree". As those of us who were brought up in the DOS days, we know what havoc that will bring on.

I am wondering how many people have downloaded that file, not any of us, and used that file not knowing what it does...

LMAO

Just 'cause it's named deltree doesn't mean that executing it will cause the deltree command to be invoked.

Ok Sir Fredrick. Maybe you can download the file and test that theory out then?

I think it was pretty funny back when my friend downloaded some mischevious file, ran it, and watched as 'atrrib +rsh c:\dos\*.*' 'attib +rsh c:\windows\*.*' and 'attrib +rsh c:\*.*' happened. It was a fun time undoing as he didn't have a boot disk with commands, attrib was +h and a hidden file cannot be run. :D

I never said it was started, I said it was in the extract directory. If you did double-click on it, it would be invoked. My point was, if you had no idea what "deltree" meant it could really ruin your day. Back in the pre-windows day, we all knew what that meant, not so many people know that now.

P.S. I have a file for you ;)

My point is, they could have named it "setup.exe" and had it perform a deltree, deltree could be anything. It might invoke the deltree command, but just because it's called that doesn't mean a thing. :) Not that I'd be willing to try it. ;p

You are correct sir, but if you check the properties by right-clicking on it you will see the execute command.

I am not that stupid, stupid yes, but not that stupid...

But if it's only an executable, double clicking on it would just spit you back out with a parameter missing error. It doesn't do anything harmful unless you point it at something! :)
