Someone tell me why this is not actually 1200 watts

P.M.P.O Power Rating 1200 Watts

If my memory serves right PMPO means something like amount of power the speaker can take for a few milliseconds before it blows itself and has nothing to do with the actual power of the system.

Heck my cute lil orange radio is 400W PMPO. I bought it for $9.99 to use in bathroom while taking a shower. It weighs about two pounds.

pmpo is I believe the total wattage power output of the device in question including ALL components within the amp itself which would include even power load resistors to get a real world reading look for measurement in RMS rating PER channel...this is a much more closer form of measurement when rating an amplifiers power output ...as for speaker ratings alone a PEP measurement will tell more peak envelope power the max you could push a speaker without damage

Have a look at these:

PMPO

peak music power output (PMPO)
Electronics: A measure of how much signal power a music-system or set of speakers can physically handle, above which they are likely to take damage.
This value is being pushed higher and higher for modern-day home entertainment systems, but be warned - PMPO has little to do with the RMS measurement, which at the end of the day is what you are really looking for. Pushing through a signal just below PMPO might not damage your system, but it'll be so distorted at that point that you might as well read the CD with your fingernail.

PMPO = GHETTO

For a moment, your ears will be treated to a raspy, distorted 1200 watts of audio...then your speakers will explode. ;)

The things that will determine how well something sounds is the RMS rating, which approximates sustained undistorted output and the signal to noise ratio. A high signal to noise ratio is desireable; the higher it is, the higher you can turn up the volume and not hear a hiss in the speakers.

Basically anything that runs off of standard 120V otulet and rated over 1050W total RMS power or so is BS.

First of all, the limitation is in how much you can draw from a standard outlet. It is limited to 120V, 15A and 1825W RMS at unity power factor(resistive load).

Amps are not unity load since they use transformer and rectifier to create DC inside. With an amp with .85 power factor, the input wattage will be limited to 1530watts

Amplifiers are not 100% efficient. At 70% efficinecy, the absolute maximum output from 1530W input is 1071watts RMS.

If the power cord on your 900W amp isn't as heavy as your hair dryer's, its not a real 900W amp.

50hz from a 4inch driver?

Yeah, and the Klipsch/Logitech setups do down to 30hz with theyr 6.5 and 8's :disgust: :frown:

Ahhh Ebay. The worlds first online flea market :D

A buddy of mine bought some speakers advertised like this for his PC. I've never considered my ACS54's to be high end, but his speakers put out more power then mine did (supposidly) and mine blew his away. I think he saw the light when he hooked up a pair of free speakers his parents got with their compaq and they sounded better then his "high end system".

Basically, if you need to use PMPO to describe your speakers' abilities, then it is safe to say those speakers are trash. :) That term was made up exclusively for crappy speakers. heh heh

To calculate PMPO wattage you take the RMS rating of your speakers, sprinkle some fairy dust on it, multiply by four and then add your grandmother's age in dog years.

Essentially PMPO ratings are completely useless. I got a set of speakers free with a PC I bought a few years ago, and the PMPO wattage was some astronomical number like 550 watts. The actual RMS wattage was four watts per channel.
