The parents just bought me a new car for graduation/birthday/christmas. It was very nice of them, i know, so don't flame me for being 'spoiled'.

But anyway, i've had the car for a little over a week now, and someone ripped the damn tag off my car. WTF?!

I went to the dealership to get another one and, well, there was a new law put in place (in my state at last) at the beginning of the year that you have to report stolen temp tags. The police officer gave me the option to prosecute if they catch the person. In a way it seems like a good idea cause whoever did it is a bastard, but it also seems like too much work for something that's kinda small.

The changes of them catching the person is pretty slim, but would you prosecute if they found the person? I'm not sure if i should or not.

And since no post is complete without pictures.. here ya go, my new car:

Sure, why not? No harm to you, and they stole something that belongs to you.

Hate to be a douchebag, but they made me work to replace the tag, they should pay the price.

nah, probably not worth the trouble that the persecution would put you through.

Nail their asses to the wall. People do this as a way to avoid paying their fair share of usage taxes. So you have to carry a larger load.

But how much effort did that take? Personally, going down to the station and giving a statement is more effort that it is worth for me.

I wouldn't bother with prosecuting them... what could you get out of it besides more of your time wasted?

If the cops catch whoever did it that will be punishment enough because they will make sure they are charged with stealing that tag which has to be at least a misdemeanor.
