Someone stole my system!

Okay, so here's the story... I go to clear off my car to go to work and I start up my car while I'm clearing it off. Something seemed kind of weird because usually I can hear my CD player going in my car while I'm outside of it. I finish clearing off my car and hop in to drive away to work. I decide to turn on my CD player but notice a big gapping hole in where it used to be. What the heck? I notice my driver's side door was unlocked. Grr... That means my idiot best friend forgot to lock the door and it was like that all night. I notice the cover for the dome light is off and no lightbulb is in it. I find the cover just thrown in my car and the lightbulb sitting on the passenger side floor. I finally get to work kind of mad, but I figure to myself, "Hey, at least they didn't get my subs. I can sell those and buy a new CD player with that money."

I'm telling one of the girls that I work with what had happened when I realized that my CD wallet was in my car. I bolt out to my car to find that I'm now not only missing a CD player, but also a CD wallet with 48 CDs in it. I think to myself, "I want to see my subs... I want to see my subs." So I walk around to the back and go to put my key in the trunk when I notice it's all jacked up. My first thought was that I had nothing left of my system. I lift the trunk lid on my car and sure enough, my subs and amp are gone.

I call the police and file a report, but I still feel lost without the stuff that was in my car. I mean come on, I had a couple hundred dollars worth of college books, a calculator that was about one hundred, and a couple other random papers in there... why didn't that go too? Here's the point where it all goes to crap. I only have PLPD on my car considering it's a 90 Cavalier and I'm in college full-time working part-time. So that kind of screws me. I think I have an idea on who it is (my dad was going on about the box that him and I put together), but this kid's been in a lot of trouble before and I don't want him doing anything stupid to anyone else's property here, let alone any of my family members. Anyone got any suggestions for me?

Stuff stolen from my hooptie:

Pioneer DEH-3100
48 CDs and CD Wallet
Power Acoustik Shappire 820
2 Polk GNX 12" Subs
Custom Box
Whistler Darlington series radar detector

Edited for "paragraphs" (I hate English) and items stolen out of my hooptie. New item discovered at 9:47 P.M.

I know you're pissed and no matter how much your other friend messed up by leaving the door unlocked, paragraphs are still your best friend. :)

Sorry to hear about your stuff getting stolen.

Who is Somone? If I were you I would find Somone and get the system back from him/her.

Spell check is also a good friend.

Sorry to hear...hopefully the police will get it back.....doubtful but maybe.

It's tough I tell you. You're probably gonna lose out on this, because there really isn't anything the police can do. I had a stereo system that was stolen from a POS Buick Century about a decade ago (man I'm old). It was a nice detachable face Pioneer CD player and about $700 in CDs. Never was recovered and since I only had liability on the car, I didn't get squat for my loss. I just fixed the window they busted out and put back in the stock cassette stereo.

The only way you could have won from this is if you were covered under renters insurance or home owners insurance. I didn't know about this at the time otherwise I would have seen if my dad could have filed a claim with their insurance. The kicker is I KNEW who stole it, just couldn't prove it. It was when I was working at Wendys and had parked in that parking lot while I went with another coworker to work at a new store opening up. I come back and the windows all busted out and there wasn't anything the police could do.

Ate my pride, and learned a $1,000 lesson.

That sux man. There was a spree of stereo theft in my town 'bout 6 months ago, but it has all stopped. Actually, most of the crime has stopped. Kinda makes sense considering that in my town (Heber City, UT. Home of the Biathlon in the SLC 2002 olympics. Population ~30,000) they have set up a major military establishment at the local airport for security during the olympics. My little brother says that they have 8 Apaches stationed there and FBI, CIA, Army and National Guard offices. The city cops aren't taking any sh!t either. Very strict to the law. Even for speeding, there is almost no tollerance.

Man, I'd love to be able to go through with that. The bad part is that this kid's been in juvi that I've known of and probably to jail for a couple overnighters or some more time. I seriously wouldn't put it past this kid to pull a gun on me if the police were to show up at his door.

Abso-frigging-lutely. If somebody who did it before but got in trouble has done it again by definition he did not get in enough trouble. He needs more and it's not your place to really decide if he has been punished enough; leave that to the courts. Unless somebody has been through _hell_ and stole from me to feed their new born kid no sob story would stop me from reporting them.

Well that is a different matter entirely but you know what? he almost certainly _won't_ pull a gun on you, and do you really honestly want to look back a year from now and say to yourself you were too scared to report this guy for stealing your stuff? I think you'll regret it (at least I would).

If the police were to show up at his door, they'd probably take him into custody before he had a chance to pull a gun on you.

Your friend probably didn't leave the door open, the thief left my door unlocked as well.

If you want to feel better, just think of the haul they got from my car:

Alpine CDA-7828
Boston Acoustics Cx3 6X9's
My $3,000 set of golf clubs
48 CD's and wallet
Ray-Ban sunglasses
Roots Sweater
and the $1.54 in the change bin.

Don't worry, insurance will cover it, and if you have replacement value coverage, you get better stuff. :D

cigs.
portable cd player
papers
headunit (kenwood 715s)
cds

YESTURDAY my honda emblem got stolen you think insurance will do anything? I don't really care but if insurance will take care of it cool. I sort of want to get all the emblems off my honda professionally removed so its "shaved" but I don't think its worth it.

You know, a lot of insurance companies will provide special coverage for additional stereo equipment added to the car. It was fairly cheap to add to your insureance. When i checked into it, the rate was about 8 bucks per 500 dollars of value. That came with a $50 deductable.

suck it up dude....

it is terrible that this happened... but hey, you don't need all that system in your car to live....
get a cheapo system which belong in a cheap car...

leave the expensive system at home, you can get more enjoyment out of it imho rather than driving and jamming at the same time..

Well sure... I'll have another CD player go into the car, maybe even a better one. The thing is though, I just have this thing for driving. My car may be a POS, but every minute that I'm in that car listening to music, it's just the biggest outlet for me. That and the fact that I'm pretty much the only one in my car (95% of my driving), so I need something there. Flippin... $385 doesn't sound bad for 2 doors if they did a good job on them. I just got back from Collex Collision and they want $300 to bend the tabs back, put a support plate in, put the lock in, and paint it. My dad seems to have a trick up his sleeve, so we'll see what happens.

Did you parents check to see if this is covered under their home owners insurance? Sometimes this kind of thing is..

My dad hasn't said anything about it yet. I just know that I have the receipts put together for like I think 18 CDs, the CD player, the subs, and the amp. I remember when my best friend's car got stolen last year, that homeowner's would only cover things like CDs not subs or any of the good stuff. We'll see how things go along. I've got pictures that I have to take down to the police department because I want those on record, so I'll upload them for you guys too.
