they insure that if properly locked up your bike will never get stolen(on certain locks)

I had a decent kryptonite lock on the bike actually :(. Should have had my Abus courier type of lock (the ones you see them wrap around their waist to make it easy to carry about), crappy D lock (it would slow them down I guess?) and my other Abus cable lock :(.

I'll be getting 2 heavy duty kryptonite locks and possibly the other big chain thing by kryptonite...

If your bike is a distintive bike, then get in contact with the nearby bike shops, and let them know about it. I know someone who got their bike back because the thief took it in to a shop 6 months later, two towns over.

Easy for you to say, but do you ride it to work every day?

Is it your main source of transportation?

OP, sorry to hear :(

I had mine stolen while i was work a couple years ago when i didn't have much money.
I would have killed the person who did it if i'd have found them.

It's sickening, since it's usually those of us who can't afford a car :(

VERY good idea. Thanks for that. I'll call around tomorrow to see whats up.

It is a pretty distinctive bike with kind of funky Cannondale decals that are tribalish on it for the 2002 model. The later models dropped off the design.

Sure I only travel 15minutes to work and I took it out on the odd longer ride but dam it was a sweet ride. I saved so much in petrol and car parking fees. It was just a dream to ride. So smooth and just glided for ages. Probably more pronouced as I had some old bikes that were crap.

I can afford a pretty nice car but I chose to get a cheap £600 to save up for a downpayment for a house. I work a 2nd job as well as a full time 9-5 to save money. I'm not rich but I make good money. Most of my money is for the downpayment...really didn't need to have my bike nicked :(.

Dunno how things go over there in the UK, but here in the states something like a bike getting jacked is covered under your homeowner's insurance. I had one stolen in college (my first real race bike too, dammit) and got a new one under my folk's insurance (I was still considered a dependent at the time).

Just FYI. Sorry about the bike. I'd go bananas if someone walked off with my Bianchi.

:(

Dad won't make any claims on the insurance...I'll be making up a bike thread. All advice welcome!

LOL. Guess why? ;)

Sorry to hear about your bike though, hope they catch the ass who did it. Might as well get a beater bike to take to and from the train station so nobody will want it :p

You're going to end up buying your own bike back. hehe.

I remember having my bike stolen in high school. It was my primary mode of transportation to/from work 1.5 miles from home. I was working minimum wage $3.35/hr only 20 hrs a week. Took me two weeks walking to/from work to make enough to replace with another bike. Bastards!!! I still remember to this day.

I've got a nice old bike, good street bike, good commuter. Came from the 80's . Not the best but not a target either. Use more than one type of lock, and make your bike ugly. If you dont want the bike stolen, a can of black krylon sprayed over that pretty paint job they come with can help. Just got done doing a paint job on the bikes of two friends, and again, they are nice used bikes from back in the day, found cheap at yard sales or bike shops(not superhero bike shops).

I feel for you man! I recently got a new hybrid bike and it cost a good chunk of change, but it rides like a dream. I've been afraid to ride it the 3 miles to the Metro, so I have been driving instead.

I had a bike stolen from my shed about 4 years ago. It was a Specialised. The shed door looked like Wolverine had hacked at it. Totally destroyed.

Wankers. :|

uhm, think they do...

i have loss/theft/damage insurance on my tag heuer and my golf clubs... its one time yearly fee that my covers my items for anything except normal wear and tear, war, and nuclear explosions (seriously, thats the exclusions in the policy)

i am sure state farm would also provide insurance for loss/theft/damage for a bike.

I had my bike stolen in High School also. Nice Schwin bike, someone cut the lock cable and boom gone. Told the school and filed a police report. The police was honest about saying that its gone and never coming back. I felt bad and angry, it was also my form of transportation to school, plus my mom got it for me on layaway throughout the summer.
