ok, so i'm going to be going home for father's day, and want to help my dad hook up his HTPC to his Sony HDTV Projection TV through DVI.

Since he's very paranoid about it, and i'm not that confident that i can get it workin, we didn't want to buy it online, but at a B&M that I could return the cable if it doesn't work out.

Fry's is the only store I could think of that would have it. Does anyone know if Fry's Electronics does or does not carry these DVI Cables?

If not (or even if yes) is there any better place to buy em?

Any electronics store will carry a DVI cable. Compusa, best buy, Circuity City, Radioshack, hell, probably Walmart or Target.

uhhh, i've seen some cables at the buy, and they're like $50 for friggin printer cables, i can only imagine what DVI would cost!!!

hmmm, maybe there's a radioshack nearby. im skeptical about walmart or target...but who knows...\

Expect to pay around $20-$50 for a short (6ft) DVI cable. They really overcharge for them, even online.

Best Buy will prob only have the Monster Cable DVI cable, which is $99.

I don't know much about Sony rear projectors, but make sure your dad's TV will accept a plain-jane DVI output from your HTPC. Some televisions only accept a HDCP encoded source through DVI.

edit: I think I might have that backwards. If the TV accepts DVI-HDCP encoding, then it should also accept regular DVI from your HTPC.
