someone said in order to use a router for DSL / Cable, you need fixed IP

is this correct? everything I've read about using a router (i'm planning on going with the Linksys BEFSR41) implies that you can just plug it in a go...that the router will be assigned the IP from the DSL connection, and then it can / will act as a DHCP server for any computers attached to it.

is there something i'm missing?

No, you don't need a static IP. It will work just fine with a dynamic address.

You're right, provided your internet connection DOES use DHCP. Some others use PPPoE, which most routers support anyway, but you just have to configure it then.

You just put in your username/password on some models, no biggie.
