Someone recommend me a new hobby

Now that I'm on break, I suddenly have lots of free time. Someone recommend me a new hobby.

But here's the kicker, I've tried ALOT of stuff and none of them have completely captured my attention. I've tried snowboarding, playing piano, golf, guns/shooting range, paintball, computer/video gaming and hardware, photography, street/freeway racing, stocks, whitewater rafting and raving/clubbing.

They are all fun in their own right (some more expensive and dangerous than others ;)), but alot of people have one hobby they really enjoy and I don't seem to have one.

You say street/freeway racing, but does that include tuning your car?

Don't really have the money for big mods, and I don't believe in little mods like intakes, exhausts, headers, etc. as having good bang for the buck.

If I'm going to get into cars really hardcore, it'll have to wait until I finish my degree (about half a year from now).

Sounds fun, but I hear it's rather expensive. How much is it?

Street/Highway racing isn't fun unless you're working towards an objective... my friend is working on doing a JDM spec turbo swap into his 200SX SE-R. But he's modding his car out along the way.

R/C Cars?

I haven't had one for a few years, but they're really fun. Can tend to get a bit expensive after a while though.

I beg to differ, freeway racing is the best rush I've ever had. There is no feeling in the world like having a three way race going, running 115, while screaming around other cars.

But I've gotten way too many tickets and I've already totalled one car. I'd prefer not to get back into such a dangerous, illegal and expensive activity.

About $50/hour minimum if you don't know anyone with a plane.

It's way fun though :)

But, lacking an airplane, I don't get to go very often.

edit: how about something with animals. Fish that eat other fish are cool.

Not cheap enough to make hobby out of, hahaha. Sounds fun though, and I'll definitely have to try it sometime. Is there usually a minimum time limit?

No no no. Not flying -skydiving. Now THAT'S fun. I'm going on my 21st birthday with whatever friends I have left who I haven't pissed off or relationships ruined by then.

Actually, here's some fun ones:
-building plastic model cars/planes
-building wooden/cloth model clipper ships (in bottles?)
-painting figurines
-whiddling (sp?)
-wood working
-working at a homeless shelter (if you're like that)
-clay
-glass blowing (I wish!)
-landscaping (actually, it's quite fullfilling once you get a taste for it)
-drums!! (Drummers RULE)
-casual sex/dating
-star watching/tracking
-theology/mysticism study
-fitness/weight training
-philosophy

Basically, anything that you can put a lot of time and effort in to with results that either give kudos to you and someone else, or just you. Remember, hobbies are for yourself -not slaving away for someone else. Have fun and good luck!

I already have a rabbit. Plus aren't animals more of a pain in the butt than they are fun? Like my rabbit just sh*ts all day and I have to clean his cage, give him water and give him food every couple of hours.

I've done model rockets before, which is very similar to alot of that. I guess exercising again is a good idea, I used to workout everday, but then I hit college and I got lazy, hahaha

Watching a rabbit eat lettuce is boring. watching oscars eat goldfish is cool. And you never have to give fish water :)

I dunno, may not be your thing though.

My hobbies:

Active hobbies:
Making my car really fast for 1/4 mile :)
Building plastic model cars
Programming (perl)
Music/TV - sorta counts.

Hobbies that I still like but haven't been able to do much lately:
Keeping fish (like I mentioned)
Flying airplanes
Building/flying RC airplanes
Surfing (ocean, not www)
Skatebaording

There's a million things you can do, there's got to be SOMETHING that you like.

Oh, and a lot of flight schools will give you an introductory lesson for an hour for $39 or something like that.

model trains haha. the more i read your posts the more i like u ameesh! :)

this may sound silly but make a hobby of making a new friend or doing something nice for somebody (u know or don't know) everyday. sometimes ti takes effort to do that stuff but ti's really rewarding.

or try volunteering, u will meet great people that way too!

Actually, I've done nearly all of them. And, no, "building" model rockets isn't anything like putting a CuttyShark ship together complete with working rope to raise/lower the sales, lifeboats, rope railing, etc or building your first 1:8 scale 1968 Mustang complete with spark plug cabling, working steering, and independant suspension.

Rockets aren't nearly as fun until you mount them sideways before launch. ;)
