I am looking to buy a XFX GeForce 680i LT SLI Motherboard and I plan on putting 2 ATI 2900 pro cards in crossfire on it. I am a little concerned by how big the cards are and I am am looking for some advice before I make the purchase.

Has anyone seen these set up perform and will it fit ok on the board with a pretty big CPU cooler setting over almost everything.

Thanks for the help!

You can't do crossfire on an SLI board and vice versa
ATI Radeon cards for crossfire
nVidia Geforce cards for SLI

What would you say is better for gaming..? and does that mean that with crossfire I would have to go with AMD VS quad core Intel?

Thanks

if you already have the radeon cards, I would go with something that has the Intel X38 chipset for the Intel Quad core processor so that you have plenty of PCI-e lanes... two x16 lanes for your video and extra PCI-e lanes for sound and tuners if you want. The X38 chipset also supports DDR2 and DDR3 memory.... but depending what the motherboard manufacturer implemented on which ever motherboard you choose will determine whether you use DDR2 or DDR3.

If you decide to go AMD Phenom, you should go with the AMD 790FX chipset which has the AM2+ socket. AM2+ sockets support DDR2-800

A majority of the people on here will tell you to go with the Intel Quad Core. I have both, and when it comes to seti, they run about equal.

Thanks for the info.. I do not have any cards yet.. I planned on getting the 2 2900 pro's and overclocking them. I also wanted to get the XFX GeForce 680i LT SLI Motherboard because at Tiger it comes with the quad chip for only 350.00.

What do you think would be a good way to go? Would you say go with that board and get some Nvidia cards to match?

I like the fact that the 2900 pro is 150 each and you can basically OC it to better then the XT or XL.. whatever it is... whats your thoughts? and thanks again.

are you going to be running vista or xp?

you might just be better off getting a radeon3850 rather than a 2900... if you look hard enough you might get one for $159... I think newegg had one for that price after rebate.

but if you are more interested in over-clocking... you either need to find another motherboard if you want crossfire or find nvidia graphics cards if you want to use this motherboard.... . or get both... that's what I would do :D
