This isn't exactly breaking news though, Caprica's been expected for quite some time now. I haven't even finished this last season of BSG, so *shrug*...my friends are probably all excited though.

No one has finished the last season of BSG. The last half doesn't begin airing until January.

Yay for series starting in 2003 and ending in 2009 for 4 seasons.... Fuckin stupid 1/2 season block shit...

They fucked this series up with it. If they hadn't done S2 and S4 midseason cuts there would be a lot more people interested. I know I have kinda stopped caring even though I loved the series...

S3 sucking ass may have had more to do with you losing interest than the season gaps.

Good point. Miniseries was amazing. S1 was pretty good. S2 was better then S1, but not as good as Miniseries. S3 was worst of all. Razor was a long filler episode, but better then S3. S4 so far has bee about S1 level (IIRC I kinda forgot most of S4 after Razor though).

Now they're talking about this crap? I'd rather take reruns of Stargate and McGuyver any day. Hell, even the A-Team would be better than this sludge.

Are you seriously saying that even the worst episode of BSG is worse than some of the Ben Browder dreck of late SG1 fare?

Don't get me wrong, I still watched all of SG1, and the early SG1 is as fun to watch as the best BSG, but seasons 9 & 10 of SG1 were...pretty rough.

Yea I hate networks who ends seasons or mid-seasons on cliffhangers then go on hiatus for a year and expect to pull in more viewers... if anything, they're just pissing off the loyal fanbase. I love BSG but Sci-Fi can kiss my ass.

This is why I like 24, even though the show has gone downhill every season after the 1st, I still watch it because I know there's closure at the end.

The gaps are definitely too long. Waiting nearly a full year to resolve a cliffhanger sucks. If they had cut all the gaps in half, it would have been much better. Or just stick to a normal TV schedule of starting in the fall, taking a few weeks off in winter, finishing in the spring, and then continuing the next season in fall again.

BSG had a neat premise and I'm glad that they're not trying to do the whole Star Trek reset button thing, instead focusing on a compelling story arc, but they have been dragging it out anyway. Since they can't use as many filler episodes as Trek, they just take time off. Lame.

And yes, season 3, especially the second half, was super lame. First half of season 4 was pretty bad too, IMO. There's been too much emo shit involving Starbuck. She needs to shut up.

I'm kinda looking forward to Caprica!

Looks like I am one of the only people who will watch BGS when it returns next month :(

I expect a lot of the fans who drifted away may give the last episode arc a try because there is some promise of closure.
And, I have to agree with the previous posters who say that the extended hiatuses basically blew any chance of keeping the audience they had, much less getting more viewers.
BSG is a lesson in how not to show a television series.
In fact, the handling of BSG has mirrored the decline of the Sci-fi channel.

But everyone likes low budget made for TV movies!

The Sci-Fi Channel sucks because of all the crappy programming they put on. Let's see:

Ghost Hunters - crap
Ghost Hunters International - international crap
Estate of Panic - bad game show crap
Chase - more bad game show crap
ECW - wrestling crap
Destination Truth - mythical crap
Scare Tactics - played out crap

Heck most of the programs they do aren't even sci-fi anymore just bad crap.

I've been wondering about this; it confuses the hell out of me. Why exactly is wrestling on the Sci-Fi channel?

Does. Not. Compute.

I absolutely would take a later episode of SG1 over S4 of BSG. At least SG1 is fun and on many occasions happy, BSG S4 makes you feel like downing a bottle of percocets after every episode. BSG is so emo that they're having trouble making it, the film keeps cutting itself to shreds.
