Someone please help me with my big wifi router problem. ASAP.

Hi.
On thursday i brought a £125 LinkSys WAG54G Wireless Router/ADSL Modem/Firewall.
Yesterday, i brought an Apple iBook 12" & AirPort Extreme Card for it.
As it stands, any more than 1.5m away from the router, the iBook gets no signal, and even when it does, it gets really really slow transfer rates, like 0.7KB/s.

Any ideas as to why that might be? Otherwise thats £210 wasted.
