I am looking for some headphones for my portable MP3 player..

From what I have read so far the
SENNHEISER PX 100 is the way to go.

There is another model that the reviews say sound and perform identical exept
they are a closed model.
SENNHEISER PX 200

From what I gather the only difference would be that with the closed model
other people cannot hear what you are listning to?

Would there be any other advantages/disadvantages between open/closed?

I am also open to suggestions for headphones for portable MP3 players.
I just got my first one and I still have lots to learn.
One thing I HAVE learned so far is that I do not like the earbud type.
They do not have to fold... hanging around my neck when not in use is just fine with me.

Closed often have better bass, but not necessarily. With such small phones, isolation from being open or closed is minimal. Also, the PX200 are known for being hard to get on both ears properly.

For open, start with a Koss 60 Ohm model, like the KSC75 or KSC55. Unbeatable for under $20, but not one under $20 with a normal band.

For a bit more money, there's the PortaPro (same drivers as above), but it is known to snag hair. Also, for that much money, there's the AKG K26P, and the PX100 that you already have selected.

The earbud headphones I have do not work well for me. ( make my ears sore )
Also I need 2 pair so I want to get this right.

Aye the KSC75 is a very good budget headphone. I liked it better for when I was bicycling than the PortaPro. Although... nowhere as good in sound as my Alessandro MS-1.

Buds are bad, and that's all there really is to that. But, they are cheap and compact, and many people are happy ruining their hearing with them.

Oh, another note on the KSC75: the clips are adjustable, and will certainly not fit perfectly right away.

so do open phones. 🙂 my HD-580's are open and completely cover your ear. they pump so much volume out into the room that it's like having a little stereo system going. you can't use them with other people in the room unless they want to listen to your music, too.

the difference is in whether or not the BACK of the driver (actual speaker) is exposed to the outside world. so open headphones have a grill or something on the outside, whereas closed headphones have a solid casing on the outside.
 
I use a pair of Koss open headphones while riding on my bicycle. I can hear traffic coming from behind me as well as dogs coming up to me.
