How can something be dumb when it can only help you? You either don't like them (then they're ignored) or you DO like them. It in no way can harm your experience, so at worst they're just not important.
 
I'll be honest, not considering the time involved, a small part of me is jealous.
But that's impossible to catch.

Whatever. Achievements are the biggest innovation to gaming to come out of this generation. If added correctly, achievements add so much re-playability to a game than was ever possible before.

Gamerscore is no different than trying to beat somebody's high score in the arcade, or do you think that's stupid too?

It's not like you're forced to play for achievements.

If anything, they add replayability to games that otherwise wouldn't have it. And, they encourage players to try out game modes and difficulties they wouldn't normally touch.
