Someone is using my account

Ok, I created an account here at Anandtech because I trusted the security and moderators here. Unfortunately, someone just logged into my account and the only way it could have been was if a MOD was under my ID.

Please stop this ASAP and remove anyone who would do such an act.

How are you certain of this? This is a strong accusation to be making and without proof, I find it somewhat insulting that you assume a MOD would abuse their power just to use your account.

I don't find it insulting at all. When you log into VB and it automatically redirects you to the login screen, it means someone with admin powers is using the account. I've been an admin for years in a VB forum and that's exactly how it worked when we logged in as a user.

Zstream, did you have to reset your password, or was someone logged in simultaneously? If it's simultaneous, it just means they cracked your password, and if you hadn't just ticked off the mods by saying it was them, one of them might pull a WHOIS and give you a country on the access. If you had to reset your password, well, refer to the other thread in TFI for the answer.

I was an admin for a while too at a VB board, and there was no way to log into a user's account without changing their password.

There are plenty of addons that cover this. We had to purchase one for this exact purpose.

There used to be an 'admin hack' called Admin Log In As User that could be installed, that gave the admins a "log in as this user" button..

no password change necessary

Believe what you want, we don't log in to accounts at random just for the fun of it. It's also not as easy to just "log in" as you think, at least not here. Not all admins have that much access to the database where we can "play as we wish".

Aside from making strong accusations, I will need some sort of proof or I'll assume you are just being malicious as many other users have been lately. Making statements without proof will get you nowhere. Plus, since you posted this in an open area instead of the closed moderator discussions area makes me believe you are just here to stir trouble.

I'm not here to stir up trouble, never have and never will. I apologize if this was spread out in the open but I was upset that someone would do this. So, please don't assume my motives.

When you are logged into Anandtech forums and make a post and come RIGHT back and your account password is valid but keep on being redirected to the logon screen you start to question what gives.

That's a serious accusation.

Because of it I looked your 100+ IP address.

You only share 3 or 4 IPs with other members. None are mods

I've had that happen to me before. Did you have to reset your password or just log back in?

I reset my password because it was concerning and it forced me to. No matter what I did, I could not log back in.

I apologize to anyone if this is a VB bug, I have never seen this behavior before unless it was as I described before. Please delete this post if this is deemed a bug.

To Zstream,

I very much wonder if your computer is other wise hacked totally independent of Anand tech. If such, said hacker had access to your browser and password. And they could log into anand tech using your user name and password on their own computer.

Anand tech mods being the perps is only one of possible many causes.

If you had questioned what gives that would have been fine, but you came here and posted that an admin had logged in to your account and that was the only thing that it could possibly be.

I have a touchpad and when I login with it, it takes me back to the login screen every time. I am actually logged in and, if I refresh the page, or go to another page, it will then show that, but as long as I don't do anything other than log in, I can do it all day and not accomplish anything. It doesn't mean that anyone else is logged in under my name.

We have no way to know what your password is. Please, please think about what you're posting before you make accusations.

Again to Zstream, "When you are logged into Anandtech forums and make a post and come RIGHT back and your account password is valid but keep on being redirected to the logon screen you start to question what gives."

As I just solved a similar problem on logging in to anandtech and kept being directed back to the login screen using firefox.

So I deleted anandtech forums from my firefox book marks and then the saved firefox pass words. Then went back to the firefox homepage, relogged into anandtech forums, bookmarked it, and then relogged into anandtech forums and saved the passwords. Now I can finally use Anandtech forums in firefox. Something that gave me fits for a month after a hard dish crash and windows reinstall.

All I can figure is something went wrong first time I did it, all it takes is just one X or O
wrongly placed to cause total computer confusion.

Not saying it will definitely make your problem go away, but it worked for me.

Just hope it helps you.
